Happy Mother's Day!
Re: Happy Mother's Day!
Apparently recipes for apple pie date back to 1300s England so it's not so much an American invention and in particular in Yorshire apple pie is served with a nice hunk of cheddar - a practice dating back to when sugar in the pie was not standard and the cheese complimented the tartness of the apples.

I've no doubt apple pie is a British invention, I've still never heard of apple pie being served with cheese.

A simple Google search unveiled the Yorkshire connection - it's apparently served that way there today, even.
Most of the stuff I ate growing up is stuff my mom ate growing up and her mom and so on and that's all straight back to rural England, Gloucestershire and South Yorkshire, so far as I've traced thus far.

As I say, I've not heard of it. But it wouldn't surprise me if it did happen in Yorkshire, bunch of oddballs up there, take Daisy and sean as good examples.

Re: Happy Mother's Day!
I have heard of apple pie with cheese but never had it.
Usually my apple pie is "straight up", no ice nor whipped cream. But if there is whipped cream it must be freshly whipped with no sugar.
The store bought stuff is too sweet for my taste.
Oh and thanks LJ, same back at you.
