That may have been the way Apple advertised stuff years back, but now I don't think they even advertise at all.  They just leak information about the next iPhone, and their sheeple do the rest, bleating about how they "ha-aa-aa-ave to get one" and immediately start queuing up for it days if not weeks in advance of its actual release.
