What if you went bad?
What if you went bad?
If you, one day, went bad and abandoned your moral precepts what would your preferred crime be?
I asked my wife this t he other day and she said without a moments hesitation: "Horse thief." ( I love that woman!) Made sense given her passion for horses and riding.
Me, it would be fraud. I would love to be a Bernie Madoff and rip off the rich and gullible. Or perhaps a Dadaist crime like swapping license plates between cars on the street. Or sending out fake subpoenas to hundreds of people who all have the same name so that a crowd of "Bob Smiths" all show up at once at the courthouse.
What about you?

I'd become an atheist
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

An Ocean's 13 style high class, high payday heist...
The type where everybody involved walks away with a cut worth millions...
If you're going to turn to a life of crime, it might as well be the type of crime where if you get away with it once, you're set for life...

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Re: What if you went bad?
Of course it does. I'd be able to walk around claiming that rationality is the product of irrationality. And that I can do anything I like because there is no such thing as "wrong". Truth is subjective and personal and your version of truth is not more valid than my own. I'd have no ground to prefer anything as an "ought".rubato wrote:MajGenl.Meade wrote:I'd become an atheist

Fortunately all atheists borrow from Christianity while pretending not to do so - For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened

So you would suffer from the same ignorant delusions you have now? Bore-ing. Do try to read Kant some day. You might want to sober up first.MajGenl.Meade wrote:Of course it does. International jewel thief a la To Catch a Thief. But the roles would be reversed and Grace Kelly would be the Cat.

Nah, I would be a miserable, fat assed loser who fantasizes about having a good life, instead of actually having one.
You try so hard to drag others down with you-proof that you have nothing going for you.

Back to the original post, I think I'd run a meth or other drug lab, producing high quality product for distribution. That, or run a high end brothel and gambling parlor.

Probably smuggling. (But probably not drugs...that would just be SO déclassé!) There are plenty of high-end products (art, antiquities, jewelry, etc.) and whenever someone gets caught in some clever scheme transporting something like that I often feel a little twinge of admiration if they've done something really ingenious.
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

This topic begs the question — "going bad", but from whose viewpoint?
