How I'm Going To Bring Myself To Vote For Hillary Clinton...

Post by Lord Jim »

I have puzzled over this for a while...

It's a true moral dilemma...

As I've said, if someone told me a year ago that Donald Trump would be the GOP nominee and you'll vote for Hillary Clinton, I'd have summoned the authorities to have that lunatic 51/50'd...

I certainly would never have gotten into a car with such a drunken and/or drug addle brained person behind the wheel, spouting such hallucinogenic nonsense...

"Donald Trump Republican Nominee? Yeah right...

"That could simply never happen, I don't know what you're on about..."

A dystopian sci-fi nightmare come to pass...

Hold your head high and act with integrity, LJ, and there will be no regrets.  Remember, in voting for Hillary you will be doing the greater good for the greater number.

Dickens said it best, at the end of "A Tale of Two Cities" —
"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done..."

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

I've figured out how I'm going to vote for Hillary...

There's no way I could do it looking down at her name on my punch card ballot and pushing the pin for her...

What I'm going to do is put the pin next to her name, and then stare at the name "Donald J. Trump, Republican Nominee" on the ballot..

And that will give me the strength to lower my hand and punch the card...

It might also help if you get drunk first.

Oh well yes, of course...

That's a given... 8-)

A mixture of cocaine and heroin might be helpful as well....

I stand by what I said earlier:

[I want to make VERY clear, just in case anyone might think otherwise, if Trump is the nominee, even though I will vote for Hillary, that will NOT mean that I have somehow "become a Democrat." (Any more than my father casting his one and only vote for a Republican for President when he voted for Nixon over McGovern meant he had "become a Republican".)

No way Jose, not on your Nelly...

When I vote for Hillary, it won't be to embrace the Democratic party or its agenda or anything it has come to stand for. I haven't suddenly decided that confiscatory tax rates are a good idea, or that destroying our economy would be just peachy if it meant that we could reduce global warming by some infinitesimal amount, or that our already decimated defense budget should be further cut.

Nor have I suddenly become a moral relativist, soft on crime, thug hugger...

Not a bit of it...

When I vote for Hillary over Trump, it will be for the same reason that George Will is prepared to do so. Not to reject the Republican party, but to save it...]

I don't care how, just that you do. Victory enough for me.

Jim--much as I hate holding your nose and voting for someone who is the lesser of two evils, sometimes the alternative is so repulsive that you have no choice. this is one such case and I respect you for your stance.

If Hillary is the democratic nominee (and it looks like she will be), I will happily vote for her, even though she isn't my first choice (and FWIW, if she actually stood for all those views you say you are not embracing, she could be :nana ). But a Trump presidency is too horrible to imagine. you are not saving the republican party, you are voting to save the country from the unthinkable.

Which one smells less odorous? If you can't vote with you head vote with you nose. Remember, the one you pick is the one that will be jamming your olfactory system for at least four years. Me? I'm going to invest heavily in Vicks VapoRub stock.

you are voting to save the country from the unthinkable.
That's pretty much the way I look at it...

(I'll just repost what I said about this earlier and save myself the additional typing... 8-)

I firmly believe he would be a complete disaster for this country as President, (on economics, international relations, national defense, take your pick...) and while I am a hardcore GOP partisan, I am also a patriotic American, and I don't want this unstable, narcissistic, embarrassing train wreck within 100 miles of the Oval Office...

I am hopeful that he will go down in flames, both in the best interest of my party, and in the best interest of my country....

And man, you gotta be some kinda awful for me to take that attitude when the alternative is Hillary Clinton...

I've felt that about some of my posts too.  After I hit "submit" and re-read it, I will sometimes ask myself, "Have I got a way with words or what?"

Isn't that what Jews do to show they are in mourning? Because that fits too.

The covering of mirrors makes; like the Brad Pitt character in Interview with the Vampire, Jim is a willing and able member of a group (in this case republicans), but he has some things members of that group really don't need, a conscience and a heart. And so Jim is struggling.

He has a heart? Is this an anti-strawman argument?
