Please understand that I bear you no malice personally when I say "fakku arigato, Mr. Rubato" ("go screw yourself, Mr. Rubato", polite form).  I've said it before, maybe not here so much but definitely at "Le Chat House" and the old Café, that the term is "speed limit", not "speed suggestion", and just because you don't think that I'm breaking the rules by a sufficient margin to satisfy you I fail to see where it is my obligation to get the hell out of your way so you can continue to pretend that you're Burt Reynolds driving in your own personal version of the Cannonball Run.

You've got a steering wheel and it goes in both directions; if you're in that big a hurry, go around me on one side or other.  And if traffic doesn't let you get around me, then take a breath, pull up your big girl panties, and realize that maybe *YOU* are the one driving too fast for conditions.

-"BB"-

Have you calibrated your speedometer lately? And if not (well it is certain that you have not isn't it?), what the fuck do you think entitles you to be the 'speed limit police'?

You do know that many speedos OVER-estimate speed by about 10% as-delivered? So when you, mister righteous speed cop, THINK you're going 65 you're actually slugging along at under 59 mph.
Bullshit, Ozzie. I do not remember the last car I saw with correct-sized tires and an inaccurate speedometer. Off the top of my head, my Dakota, both my F350s, my Magnum, both Caprice wagons, my wife's Metro and Festiva are all either dead-on or very close (1-2MPH) at highway speed. My Cherokee was actually optimistic: 70MPH indicated was 72MPH actual. Unsurprisingly, my Crown Vic (with its certified speedometer) is dead-on from 5MPH to 80+.

Motorcycles, now, THOSE are almost universally off: other than police Harleys, I have never seen a bike that DIDN'T read fast.

The maintenance can be a nightmare...and some of the electrical problems are horrid.
Ummm...need I point out that you're saying that to a Brit, i.e., someone who presumably has some experience with British cars in general, and with Lucas, Prince of Darkness in particular...?
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

Honestly, I have never driven a British car, our first two cars were Fiat. The next five were Hyundai, and we have the Audi and one of the Hyundai still.

The Audi servicing and repairs are still covered under warranty so owt goes wrong with it Audi can fix it.

If by design you mean aesthetics then it is entirely a personal matter.

If by design you mean succeeds in meeting engineering goals then your comment is groundless since you cannot know what my engineering goals are.

You fail to even grasp the beginning of the concept of "Design". And I have been paid to successfully invent and synthesize new molecules to meet the material design goals of our customers.

What is that meandering I'll formatted screed even supposed to mean?

I am paid to invent and create automotive systems (aesthetic and functional) all over the vehicle (excepting powertrain) and I damn sure know enough to know the difference between a known shortcoming in a particular design and describing it as a targeted goal of said design.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

[it means I used little words and short sentences to make it clearer for you]

Any particular car choice represents a compromise between different goals. If I bought a car based on most fun to drive, best handling and decent mileage I might get a Lotus Elise or an Alfa 4C. If I wanted lowest cost of ownership I might rank cars by purchase price, highest MPG in my driving conditions, and lowest repair costs. If I wanted safety above all I would look at the IIHS driver death ratings and no be so concerned with weight and MPG issues.

You actually don't know anything about design. You're just being bitchy and foolish.

If a car was designed to roll over as you claim dumbs it would be on its roof already. there are pros and cans and give and take to deigns but there is a lot of work done to minimize the cons (especially where safety is at risk) But, if you'd like to continue making more of a fool of yourself please continue.

Tell you what. Go back to school and finish a BS to go with your AA and you'll make enough money to buy a good car yourself and you won't be such a pathetic loser. And try to write better and more clearly than

Sheesh.

There is a company who hires someone to do 'design' work who cannot write better than that? GM? Ford?

You bring such a unique and valuable perspective. I'm sure many people were sitting around asking "But what would the average tow truck driver think of that". And there you are to fill them in!

Awfully considerate of you to dispense your wisdom so generously. Crackpot is, no doubt, very refreshed.

I've met plenty of very competent engineers who weren't terribly good writers - and many lab scientists with the same shortcomings.

Additionally crackpot always posts from his phone and I think he has fat fingers. :P

Since this is a topic I know virtually nothing about, all things being equal it would be a toss up for me to determine who has the accurate position...

But of course all things are not equal because in this case one of the participants in the debate has a proven record of not knowing WTF he's talking about 90% plus of the time, so if I were going to put some money on who's correct, I know which way I'd bet...

I agree. There is a reason there are tech writers. Same are very good at taking engineering gibberish and puting it in plain english.
