Actually, no. If I put something on the board stating that "everyone needs to read this", I should expect responses, some of which may not be based on sentimental approval of manipulative nonsense. People do actually think about these things and respond accordingly. Knee-jerk abuse is of course expected from those who enjoy pap.

Which is exactly why I believe "Fuck Off" was an appropriate response to all the negative commenters.

If he had just posted a "Fuck off, the lot of you", no one would have batted an eye, because most of us have been the recipient of that message when we choose to poke fun at someone's sacred cows (for example, that is what I expect to hear from Gob when I poke fun at Wales). It's somewhat of a retort in kind.

But he then chose to edit out the content of every post he made in the thread. It was as if to say, "I don't know why I keep casting these pearls before swine, because none of you are worthy to be made privy to the profound truths I seek to share."

It was the reaction of a pouting child who has picked up his marbles and gone home.

Do the social traditions and etiquette practices here mean 'everybody read, but only post if you like it'? Should the headline way up at the top admonishing and even begging for argument be removed?

Yes. We're a very polite group here and prefer not to get involved in quarrels and don't want to read about disagreements. If you don't like something, lie and say you do like it.
