Why isn't there any outrage being directed towards the members of the pre-sentencing board that recommended this sentence?

While the prosecutors did ask for six years, this isn't a case where a judge pulls a ridiculously lenient sentence out of thin air:

probation officials recommended a much lighter penalty of six months in county jail, largely because he has no prior criminal record and their belief that he is genuinely remorseful, according to prosecution and defense sentencing memos.

Ahhh, there's a couple of the warts found on your back-door-deals and in those smoke-filled rooms!

Seriously, though, the most likely reason is that the individuals who made up the pre-sentencing board are not as easily identified by the vast majority of the people as Judge Claptrap, who accepted their recommendation and handed down the sentence, would be.  If someone were to publicly identify them by name, I'm sure they would come in for their fair share of censure, vitriol, and disapprobation.

While the sentence was too lenient, it may be consistent with other sentences in similar cases (we don't know). I think what brought the outrage against this judge was how he justified his decision with a 180-degree mis-focus of how prison would impact the criminal. In addition, while the criminal may have earned his place at Stanford (it appears he came from a typical middle/upper middle class family), he has gained a place of privilege and has blatantly used such position to argue for leniency, which also brought appropriate condemnation down on him and the judge who bought it.

This new ‘sexual consent and tea’ video from the police is brilliant

Sex and consent is a difficult issue, mainly because something that seems so simple is continually ‘misunderstood’ in rape cases.

Thames Valley Police have highlighted the issue by promoting a cartoon comparing sex to a well known British pastime – drinking a cup of tea.

The result is this simple, effective and at times quite funny video, which gives clear instructions as to what constitutes as sexual consent.
