What Are You Thinking About This?

Post by Joe Guy »

For the last couple of weeks I've been watching a lot of shows like "Dateline" & "20/20". Reruns are shown on every night and since I've never watched them before, they're all new to me.

On the "InvestigationDiscovery Channel" (ID) it seems like all they show are true stories about murders. Each show has a different name but the only difference between them is they're about different types of murderers. They have family murderers, college murderers, swamp murderers, a show called "Southern Fried Homicide" and many more. I'm sure you can find a show that has the type of murder that appeals to you if you check their schedule.

On these programs they have reenactments of what happened and also have interviews with real family members or friends that were at the scene when the crime occurred or were in some way affected by the crime. Sometimes that includes the murderer, sometimes not.

So, here's my OBservation. Every time they interview people on one of these shows, they are asked what they were thinking at the time. They all respond with a "You," as in "You just can't believe what you're seeing," or "You just freeze," "Your head spins and you wonder...".

If somebody asked me that question, I would say, "I couldn't believe it, I froze, my head was spinning."

I'm now noticing that type of response in other situations also.

Why do people do that?

What does this all mean?

You just gotta wonder....

Information/sensory overload. The mind cannot process what they are seeing or trying to believe what they are seeing.
That is why training for crisis situations (EMT's, combat, etc) is crucial so the overload can go on the back burner and training memory can take over. After it's over is the problem, aka PTSD.

I'm thinking, "You don't watch those programs" and "You see what they are about and just know they are crap". Don't I?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

I wonder that after watching the 3 stooges.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I wondered those things about The 3 Stooges when I was five... 8-)

(I was never a Stooges fan...I still don't get why they're supposed to be funny... :? )

You were probably too busy trying to figure out each Stooge's political affiliation to see any humor.

No, I was trying to figure out why twisting somebody's ear or poking them in the eyes was supposed to be humorous...

Like I said, even when I was five years old, I didn't see the comedy content in that.... 8-)

I think that's a "second person" POV. Just listen to an episode of CarTalk for example. You always hear "so when you step on the gas" or "when you throw it into reverse" or "when you shoot the low life, annoying, tow truck driver," etc.

It may not be the most common way to convey a point of view but I find it being used often when people try explaining themselves to other.

I've had a perverse fascination for true crime since childhood, beginning with books. I devour Forensic Files, Cold Case, Investigation ID, etc.

I consider it paying homage to the victims.

eta: I will say that with my own experience in the criminal injustice system, and the recent revelations about the faulty nature of much forensic 'science' (arson junk science, faulty fingerprint evidence, hair evidence, handwriting analysis, even ballistics in some cases - and incompetence in the coroner's office) I spend much of the time watching and wondering if the person convicted was truly guilty. :?

That's why it's so much easier to just execute 'em all and let God sort 'em out. Once they're dead you can put 'em out of your mind...and if perchance the question of guilt should cross your mind anyway, well, then, that would just be pointless speculation--right?

It's really not fair; I have you at such a disadvantage...

Given the fact that I remember the things you've said so much better than you yourself do... 8-)

(Don't go getting a swelled head over that rube...I haven't given you any special attention; I just tend to remember things in general... ;) )

LMAO

So, I hacked your account and created the quote I provided a link to that showed you saying the exact same sort of sneering thing about DP supporters that Econo said in jest?

Well, I guess if I have the ability to hack your account in order to post things under your handle that make you look like a moron and prove my points, that would certainly explain a lot.... :D
