Some additional numbers from the WaPo/ABC News poll I quoted yesterday that showed Trump underwater 29-70 on favorability:

Notably, men overall were disenchanted with both candidates — a record 63 percent saw Clinton unfavorably, while 62 percent said the same about Trump. Among women, by contrast, Trump was far more unpopular — 77 percent rated him unfavorably, a new high on his part, vs. Clinton’s 47 percent.

Even more striking is Trump’s unfavorability rating among racial and ethnic minorities: A nearly unanimous 94 percent of blacks saw him negatively, as do 89 percent of Hispanics; ["The Mexicans love me!"] that declines to 59 percent among whites. Clinton was more unpopular than Trump among whites — 68 percent saw her unfavorably — but vastly more popular among nonwhites.



Results among other groups also are telling. Trump was rated favorably by just 65 percent of Republicans, [That's actually dropped from where it was right after he supposedly secured the nomination, when it should have been going up. He's clearly doing a stellar job of unifying the party.]Clinton by 75 percent among Democrats — not monolithic support in their home corners. Independents, often thought of as swing voters (though they don’t always perform that way) didn’t like either one: 68 percent saw Trump negatively versus a similar 63 percent for Clinton.

Trump’s difficulties are further illuminated by the fact that he was rated favorably by just 47 percent of conservatives. Clinton, for her part, was seen positively by 59 percent of liberals, but that means 4 in 10 in this key Democratic group rated her negatively.

I can sort of agree with you. NPR I thought was National Public Radio. Recently that ran announcements and stories about the death of a person very important to the organization who was in a war zone working on behalf of NPR and was killed.

He was a photo journalist, or perhaps 'videographer.' At any rate his art was VISUAL, he worked with PICTURES. For a radio network? So yes, they are sort of nuts.

Money for Cartalk? I have told my local NPR station they can run repeats, just use my past contribution again.

But I still like the Washington Post. Do you prefer the moonies paper, the Washington Times?

It's just plain ignorant to try and discredit a WaPo/ABC poll based on what one thinks of the Washington Post, or ABC news...

It's not like they've got a bunch of liberal Trump-hating reporters on the phone conducting a "push" poll...

That's not how it works...

Whenever you see a poll attributed to a large news organization, be it the Washington Post, or NBC, (that splits their polling costs with The Wall Street Journal, which is why that one is called "the NBC/WSJ poll") or even (God forbid ) Fox News, those organizations have NOT conducted the poll...

The way it works is, those organizations contract professional independent polling operations to do the polling. And then because they paid for the polling, they're able to "brand" them with their company names and use that for promotional purposes.

And none of these journalism operations have any interest in deliberately generating false results, because that would just damage their reputation.

I find it highly amusing how for months Trumpty, and the Trumpanzees, and his media Trumpford Wives were all crowing about the polls...

Lately, not so much...

I saw one of the Trumpford Wives a few days ago trying to claim with a straight face, (I'll give them this...they're very good at managing to not break up into hysterics when they spout their surreal alternative reality nonsense...) that the reason Trump's poll ratings with women and minority groups are so bad is because the people responding to the polls are "afraid" to give honest answers lest they be subjected to scorn and ridicule...

Yeah right...

"Scorn and ridicule" from an anonymous polling company employee who doesn't know them from Adam calling them on the phone...

That "explanation" deserves scorn and ridicule...

Apparently when Trump was riding high in the polls this wasn't a problem, but now all of a sudden when he's tanking, there are legions of secret Trump supporting poll respondents afraid to express their love for The Donald...

I grew up reading the Washington Post, and while I have frequently disagreed with their editorial positions and even some slanted news stories, there is absolutely no question that they are the Titans when it comes to comprehensive coverage of national politics...(Just like the NY Times is when it comes to international news coverage)

I'd still have a subscription if I could get same day delivery out here....

But again as I said, no matter what one thinks of The Post, the paper has no influence over, or involvement in, the poll results they commission to have done.

I think that is due in large part to the rise in people getting their news and information from their electronic devices (tablets, cellphones, and laptops), meaning that even if they are going to a site like npr.org, they are using what is first and foremost a visual medium and the user will expect visual content rather than just words on a screen.

My local newspaper is just as bad.  $1.00 for the daily edition, and many times the paper is 50% or more advertising (or legal notices and obits — and one even has to pay per column-inch for the obits!!) and other non-news content such as crossword puzzles, Ann Landers, and what few comic strips remain.  Any so-called "news" articles generally give a very rudimentary rundown of the facts and ends with the reminder to "go to http://www.the-local-rag.com" for more coverage.

The Ann Landers column ended when she died. The Dear Abby column was taken over by the original Dear Abby's daughter, so that is still in syndication.

And I still read the printed paper, Long Islands Newspaper, Newsday.
It's my dogs job to go out and get the paper and bring it in every morning. Took about two days to train the dog, took about 4 years to train the paper guy to throw it over the fence so I didn't have to go out with the dog and open the fence for him.

Regardless of some of the ideological differences I have had with The Post over the years, there is absolutely no question that when it comes to comprehensive in-depth reporting on national politics, The Washington Post is #1, the standard, the paper of record...

Nobody else is even close...(not even The NY Times)

And I've been reading it since I was seven years old, so I've got about 49 years of experience behind me to back up that assertion...
