Name That Movie!
Re: Name That Movie!
Jim--It's starting to come back; if I recall, Kate and Pearl (Jethro's mother)were described on that show as being cousins and just like "two peas in a pod" . It's kind of like Lisa Kudrow playing characters on FriendsPhoebe) and Mad About You (Ursual); as I recall, the back story is they were sisters who couldn't stand each other, or Patty Duke playing Patty and Cathy lane.

Re: Name That Movie!
You gotta wonder about Paul Henning (the show's creator) and his decision to name the town "Hooterville". Quite sure the term 'hooters', while not bandied about as commonly as it is today, still carried the same meaning back then as it does now. And then to flaunt it by having the three young female leads — and they didn't need to have long hair to prove it, if you know what I mean — titillate (pun intended) the audience by putting enough of their female pulchritude on display when they popped up over the lip of the water tank during the opening credits (while the performer of the theme song crooned "...a lotta curves, you bet — and even more when you get — to the Junction") ... well, I still ask myself how in the hell it ever got past the CBS censors, who were notorious for their strictness back in the day.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

I stand in the presence of TV trivia greatness...Big RR wrote:Jim--It's starting to come back; if I recall, Kate and Pearl (Jethro's mother)were described on that show as being cousins and just like "two peas in a pod" . I knew Pearl Bodine was Jethro's mother, but I had forgotten the connection they made with her and "Cousin Kate" until you jogged my memory...
Petticoat Junction trivia digression question:
After Bea Benaderet died from cancer in 1968, she was replaced as the owner of The Shady Rest by a very well known television actress...(the character was also a physician...having a woman doctor on a show was fairly "progressive" for the time...)
What was the name of that actress?
And Big RR, you are NOT eligible to answer the question....

Re: Name That Movie!
I won't answer, but I do not recall her being the owner, only the local doctor. The song said the Hotel is run by "Joe" after Kate died, and clled her "a lady MD who's as pretty as can be" at the Junction.
As for TV trivia greatness, I didn't recall any of it until you brought up the show; I don't ever recall seeing it on any of the old TV rerun channels, but I easily could have missed it.

Re: Name That Movie!
I hadn't watched any of these shows for a long time until about 10 years ago...
My daughter enjoyed watching old 60s shows on TV Land more than the current kiddie junk on some of the other channels...
The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Bewitched, I Dream Of Jeannie...
One time I told her it was time for her to straighten up her room and put her toys away...
And she said, "I wish I could wiggle my nose like Samantha and make my toys put themselves away"...
I laughed and said, "or cross your arms and blink like Jeannie and make your toys put themselves away"...
She looked at me and said, "exactly"...
She was six at the time...

Re: Name That Movie!
I don't remember her *CHARACTER* name, but the actress was June Lockhart — Timmy's mom, from "Lassie" fame.Lord Jim wrote:Petticoat Junction trivia digression question:

Name That Movie!
They don't make 'em like that anymore... thank God.
Then again, nothing compares to the dreadful abomination called "Two Broke Girls" on CBS that somehow gets renewed every year.
The inside poop says one of the ditzy waitresses had a sexual encounter with Les Moonves and not cancelling the show is tantamount to him paying hush money. Or so the story goes.

I've heard that's Meade's favorite television show...Then again, nothing compares to the dreadful abomination called "Two Broke Girls"
I'm not saying it's his favorite TV show, maybe it isn't, but that's what I've heard other people saying...

I can't even stand the commercial spots for that insipid, diaper-age, rubbish.

Honey I'm home.
I can't believe I won.
And no, I will not have a quote from Das Boot.
Gotta find one as I remember some but need to look them up so I can be accurate. Be back soon.
This shouldn't be too hard.
"Diversification. Yes, sir. We're constantly exploring new and exciting areas of crime. And I tell ya somethin'. We better, because there a couple Japanese gangs out there that are going to do it faster and cheaper."
