I'm going to Florence!!!

Post by Scooter »

Not until the fall of next year, mind, but that doesn't stop me from being excited about it - when last there I was only 21.

My nephew and his fiancee have decided they want to get married in Florence, so those closer family and friends who can get there are going to join them.

I am going to find some little place on AirBnB and spend the entire week before the wedding in the city, and then in the week after use it as a base from which to explore some of Tuscany, which I have never done.

I feel like Helena Bonham Carter (and if you don't get the film reference, I will post a suitable quote if I can ever guess another one in the film thread).

I hope you have a wonderful time. Don't forget to visit this chap - he's a hoot and a half.
Dario Cecchini, age 55, has been a butcher for 37 years – following in the footsteps of the previous 8 generations of Cecchini males.

The owner of the Antica Macelleria Cecchini in Panzano in Chianti (Tuscany, Italy), has been defined by the New York Times and Le Figaro as “the most famous butcher in the world”.
Added bonus is that Panzano is so pretty - but then it's a Tuscan town.... aren't they all?

Oh for a bit of a different visit, try the next hill over (west I think) and Poggio al Sorbo - a vineyard and winery with statuary by the son scattered throughout the villa and grounds.

:ok

How wonderful!

I was there (over 30 years ago), and stayed in the hotel where they filmed (at least some of) A Room with a View. It was called Pensione Quisisana e Pontevecchio, and I did have a lovely view. If my Google-fu is working correctly, the place is now called Hotel Degli Orafi; http://www.hoteldegliorafi.it/english/storia.php

It looks lovely, and it's pretty reasonably priced by Florence standards, but I've been seeing a lot of B&B options for a third of the price or less, so I may have to do without the cachet of staying there.

It certainly has a lot more character and is much more reasonable than the Four Seasons, where the wedding will take place. My nephew's fiancee works in their Toronto offices and they are getting a major deal, but that still comes to 600 euros a night for a room (regular price would by over 800).

Enjoy. I haven't been there since 1977, but loved the place.

So looking forward to touring Europe with Hen, in our campervan, when we retire back to the UK.

I'm Going To Florence!!!

Ah, I spent a few moments in Florence* back in the summer of '71. I met her at the Elbow Room in Margate NJ. A few beers, a few lines of blow and... we were made for each other. I saw her once more in '72 but she pretended not to notice me.

The chicks couldn't resist: "Hi, I'm Ray, and I'm not wearing any underwear."

You'll be able to see great views every day during the week before the wedding, no matter where you stay!

You realize with the brexit, you will be forever confined to your island.
