The price of bigotry

Scooter ,Man I have to respect you .
Re: The price of bigotry
Thanks, but I haven't done anything, it's the folks at the ground zeros of hatred and bigotry in NC, TN, MS, etc. that are fighting these fights. I just bring attention to it where I can.

Re: The price of bigotry
I look at this as a jobs bill. Each public restroom will have an attendant (as is done in many similar facilities in Europe) who can stand at the door and check id's, pass out warm towels, brush clothing, keep the place clean and orderly, and collect tips. I don't think the person in the European facility checks id's but they do the other stuff. It was a bit of adjustment for me when it was a female attendant at the male bathroom.

all this is so stupid...
on both sides
were people really having a problem figuring out how to take a piss?
well, with the exception of men of a certain age, of which I am one, I hadn t heard of any problems...
...until both sides made it a problem
carrots, they are all bloody carrots.

Just occurred to me someplaces have third bathrooms ,the Lowes stores around here have bathrooms that are sort of oriented to to non specific needs ,I tell you when you have to help your wife sometimes ,thats better then a man having to go into the Womans bathroom to help Her (my better half has problems occasionally and requires assistance at times )

Right now, my wife is recovering from some serious surgery and I have to wipe her butt after she eliminates. Last nite we went to Wendy's. I asked the manager before we ordered, if 'we' could use the women's facility together; would she, the manager, stand at the door if we both needed to go in. That all worked out for us.

RAYThOM, I've never been married, but I do know the vows (as I am familiar with them, anyway) speak of taking your intended spouseRayThom wrote:sg, you are obviously a loving and caring husband. Kudos, BP, for following through on the not-so-pleasant part of the vows.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Re: The price of bigotry
Anyone who's been married for a very, very long time has to have realized that at some point, eventually, they're going to be either the giver or the recipient of this sort of care. (If both spouses are really lucky, each will get the chance to be both the giver and the recipient, at different times.)
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

Re: The price of bigotry
Econoline, I agree with you, but if you're both very lucky, neither will need the care. and FWIW, while I would gladly be the giver, I would not want to be the recipient of such care. I'm sure I'd have no choice, but it's not something I'd want my wife to have to do; I'd rather have her put me in a rehab facility and let a stranger do it (but I'm sure it would be a pretty big fight).

With all of the focus and media attention that has been given lately to topics relating to transgender issues, I was curious to find out what the total population of transgender people in this country is...
I figured it was low, but based on the most reputable numbers I could find, it's even lower than I expected:
http://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/w ... r-2011.pdf
Okay as of 2013, (which was the most recent number I could find):
Or roughly the size of the total population of San Francisco...
Now of course that's spread out all across the country, but it's logical to assume that there will be some places like the (burg I live in) where the percentages will be somewhat higher because logically people tend (if possible) to prefer to live in places where they feel more welcome and accepted, and that in other places the number would be significantly lower than .3 percent...
Okay, 750,000 people is not an insignificant number, but as a percentage of the population when you compare it to the amount of attention received from people on all sides, (to say nothing of the lavish news media attention. Listening to the cable news channels most of the day, it seems like this bathroom issue alone is the second most reported on story on a daily basis, after the Presidential campaign) it seems seriously disproportionate...
Given the overall small percentage, and the natural aversion of people to go where they feel uncomfortable in the first place, it seems to me the odds of a transgender person going into the restroom of the average bar or restaurant are pretty small to begin with...and when it does happen it sure ain't gonna be happening all that often...
It seems to me this really not something to get up in arms over. And the media coverage is helping to fuel the concerns, and giving people the impression that there's a much larger issue here than there is. Whether it's the people on one side who are up in arms over what they see as a civil rights issue, or the people on the other side who are up in arms because they are terrified that legions of cross dressers are going to be invading the ladies room at there local tavern or bistro...
I figured it was low, but based on the most reputable numbers I could find, it's even lower than I expected:
Full report:Key findings from the research brief are as follows:
An estimated 3.5% of adults in the United States identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual and
an estimated
0.3% of adults are transgender
.
This implies that there are approximately 9 mil
lion LGBT Americans, a figure roughly
equivalent to the population of New Jersey.
Among adults who identify as LGB, bisexuals comprise a slight majority (1.8% compared
to 1.7% who identify as lesbian or gay).
http://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/w ... r-2011.pdf
Okay as of 2013, (which was the most recent number I could find):
So, if the percentage were one percent, the that would be about 2.4 million people, so at .3% it's a little less than a third of that, or about 750,000...As 2013, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that there are 242,470,820 adults living in the United States.

The government finally got out of our bedrooms and have now entered our bathrooms.
Why is the gov involved in this anyway? What did we all do before Caitlin/Bruce/whatever Jenner came along to show us all that being a normally sexed person will not get you on TV with your own show. (oh wait the Kardashians did that for us).

Re: The price of bigotry
I think most people are quite accustomed to single unit rest rooms marked as being unisex. My wife is not so happy as she finds it disgusting that ALL men spray urine on the toilet ceramics and the adjacent floor, walls and whatever else is available. And they leave the seat up. But on the privacy side, single unit rest rooms are OK - no one else is going to walk in.
Damned if I want to stand at a row of five urinals and some woman walks in - but you get used to a female cleaner if you happen to be in some foreign countries. But my wife - she is certainly not happy with the idea that she can be in a communal rest room and men can, ad lib, walk in and start splashing piss all over.
In order to allow a man who thinks he's a woman or a woman who thinks she's a man to use whatever rest room they feel like using, my wife is forced to accept that she must use a non-gender room into which actual ordinary men who know they are men can walk any time they feel like it.
Yep, that's freedom - that's protecting people's rights. Well done.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

That's so sweet. You can almost envision a Norman Rockwell-like painting.“You Can Pee Next to Me”

Hello, you gorgeous little lady, do you come to this restroom often?

The fact that that is where your mind went says a hell of a lot more about you than anything else.
