Despite Brexit (and Icenotenter) the game gets lost

Post by MajGenl.Meade »

England suffered their worst humiliation since they were knocked out of the 1950 World Cup by USA in Brazil as Iceland shocked them in the last 16 of Euro 2016.

Manager Roy Hodgson resigned after the abject embarrassment of losing to a nation ranked 34th in the world - and with a population of just 330,000 - despite taking the lead through Wayne Rooney's fourth-minute penalty.

Iceland equalised within a minute as England failed to deal with a trademark long throw and Ragnar Sigurdsson bundled home from close range.

England's shameful performance was summed up by Iceland's 18th-minute winner when goalkeeper Joe Hart was badly at fault - just as in the win over Wales - as he let Kolbeinn Sigthorsson's shot through his hand.
So now one must cheer for Wales... or Belgium - they've got two Spurs players in the first team

Accession of Iceland to the European Union is a contentious political issue in Iceland. Iceland applied to join the European Union on 16 July 2009 and formal negotiations began on 27 July 2010.[1] However, on 13 September 2013 the Government of Iceland dissolved its accession team and suspended its application to join the EU. On 12 March 2015, Foreign Minister of Iceland Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson stated that he had sent a letter to the EU withdrawing the application for membership, without the approval of the Althing, though the European Union stated that Iceland had not formally withdrawn the application

Proof that the stories of job losses following BREXIT were just scaremongering - all of a sudden we have loads of vacancies to fill - PM, England manager, England captain (probably) and the entire shadow cabinet- boom times

Was there in June '65.

Flew from JFK NYC via turbo prop (Icelandic Airlines).

Wonderful warm sunny day, gracious people, and interesting sights.

But I digress, was Brexit around then?

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

The Czechs would disagree.

You're still buying the "American" stuff owned by Belgum aren't you?
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Social media has certainly been a sympathetic forum for the UK team:
"An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a bar... to watch Wales play in the quarter-finals." Boom boom.

Oh well, if you're going to small craft breweries, they are best almost everywhere in the world

fwiw, I've found and drank excellent beer in England. Like Meade says, you can find good craft beer in so many places now, and in such diversity that it is merit-less to complain about the choices. If you want to complain about the lack of taste in macro-beer, the U.S. can hold its own.
