I always enjoy what you post -- this, too, as odd as it is. It does tell me that you are much sillier and more self-righteousness than I had ever given you credit for... and not in a good way.Scooter wrote:Fine. As the new saying goes "if you see something, say something." I will welcome the "child porn" audit and greet authorities you send with open arms -- once they show me a proper warrant, of course. (Who knows how many more humorously re-captioned 1920s Standard Plumbing fixtures advertisements they'll find?) And then when they leave it will be on to inspect the psychotic drivel on your computer.

Re: The price of bigotry
The PGA has also issued the following statement regarding North Carolina's HB2 law (a/k/a "The Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act"):
If it was scheduled for August of this year, I could understand the inability to pull it out of Charlotte at the last minute and try to get everything set at some other venue elsewhere. But we're talking a full year or more from now. Looks to me like the PGA is talking the talk all right, but not exactly walking the walk.

-"BB"-
However, they stopped short of moving the 2017 PGA Championship, scheduled for the week of August 7-13 (2017), from Charlotte's Quail Hollow Country Club to a location in another state.“The PGA of America strongly opposes North Carolina HB2. It contradicts our commitment to create an inclusive and welcoming environment at our events. We remain hopeful that the law will be changed .... As we look to future events, our willingness to consider coming back to the State of North Carolina will be severely impacted unless HB2 is overturned.”

Might be as simple as a contract with a giant penalty clause, be it for them or for the TV broadcasters.

They're doing the right thing. I think we need to grant them the ability to choose to allow the state a reasonable interval to respond. They are holding an even bigger hammer behind their backs with the ability to pull all PGA events in NC.
The NBA response is more muscular but then we're comparing them to GOLFERS . so

Re: The price of bigotry
Thing is, they didn't say anything about a "reasonable interval". If they were going to do that then they should have set a deadline — oh, let's say the first of February 2017 — and say "if the law is not repealed or there is no progress toward a repeal by that date, then we're outta here" and mean it. That would still give them six months or more to relocate the event; it's not like North Carolina is the only state with a golf course that could host the PGA Championship.rubato wrote:They're doing the right thing. And for that matter, I'm sure the PGA does have a fallback plan if some catastrophic act of God or nature (like a major hurricane hitting the eastern seaboard) would render the course unplayable and force them to go someplace else.

NCAA to move 7 championships from North Carolina due to HB2 law
The NCAA announced on Monday the relocation of seven previously awarded championship events — including NCAA tournament games in Greensboro — from the state of North Carolina during the 2016-17 academic year as a result of the state's controversial House Bill 2.
The law prevents cities and counties from passing protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity. And public schools must require bathrooms or locker rooms be designated for use only by people based on their biological sex. The NCAA sent a questionnaire in July concerning discrimination issues to the local organizing groups in cities that have been named to host any NCAA event in any of its three competitive divisions or are interested in staging them.
The NBA moved its the All-Star game in Charlotte for the same reasons in July and Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski called the law "embarrassing" in an interview with USA TODAY Sports.
The NCAA cited "state laws that limit civil rights protections" and emphasized that its championship events must promote an "inclusive atmosphere for all college athletes, coaches, administrators and fans."
“Fairness is about more than the opportunity to participate in college sports, or even compete for championships,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement. “We believe in providing a safe and respectful environment at our events and are committed to providing the best experience possible for college athletes, fans and everyone taking part in our championships."
The seven events that will be relocated are:
► 2016 Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, College Cup (Cary), Dec. 2 and 4.
► 2016 Division III Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships (Greensboro), Dec. 2 and 3.
► 2017 Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, first/second rounds (Greensboro), March 17 and 19.
► 2017 Division I Women’s Golf Championships, regional (Greenville), May 8-10.
► 2017 Division III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships (Cary), May 22-27.
► 2017 Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship (Cary), May 26 and 28.
► 2017 Division II Baseball Championship (Cary), May 27-June 3.
New locations for the championship events are expected soon.

Re: The price of bigotry
I was recently in the NY Finger Lakes area and enjoyed a wine tasting at a very pleasant winery visited often in the past. They have two "restrooms" (the USian slang for "toilet"). One was marked 'Women" and the other, the one with the urinal and a toilet bowl, was marked "Both"
So if one woman chose to use "Both" any needy male just had to stand outside the empty "Women" toilet and hope that the good lady in the "Both" freaking well hurried up
How is that equality?

Western toilets aren't particularly good in any case.
We should adopt the Japanese type. No quarrelling then.

This is the same non-problem North Carolina decided to address with its lavatory law. What woman is going to use the "Both" room when the "Women" room is empty?MajGenl.Meade wrote:One was marked 'Women" and the other, the one with the urinal and a toilet bowl, was marked "Both"

Re: The price of bigotry
Oh yeah - so what if the Women's room is occupied by a wimmin and a 2nd womin goes into the "Both" room? It may be a non-problem to you but then the entire world isn't run for your convenience
(heh heh he said 'convenience')
PS that is to say, why cannot both be "Both"? I don't have a problem with that.

How can one state be having so much trouble over bathrooms?
And trust me; if I was an RA that last line would have me submitting my resignation ASAP.
