Munich shootings

Post by Gob »

A gun attack at a Munich shopping centre which left nine people dead was carried out by one gunman who then killed himself, police have said.

A huge manhunt was launched following reports that up to three gunmen had been involved in the attack at the Olympia centre.

The body of the suspect was found about 1km (0.6 miles) from the shopping centre in the Moosach district.

The motive for the attack, in which 10 people were wounded, is unclear.

German media reported that the suspected gunman had shot himself in the head.

Following the attack, the Bavarian capital's transport system was suspended and the central railway station evacuated. Public transport was reopened several hours later when police gave a cautious "all clear".

Thousands of people stranded by the emergency and unable to get home were offered shelter by local residents. The initiative was launched with the Twitter hashtag #Offenetür (open door).

I've been following this story most of the afternoon, but the reports have been so confusing and contradictory, (8 dead, 9 dead, 10 dead, one shooter, three shooters, shootings at multiple locations, shooting only at a single location...)

I've been waiting for some more solid information from the authorities before commenting on it...

In the midst of tragedy, people stand up and open their hearts (and homes) to those in need.
Good show.
May I be as kind.
