I am! Won't watch unless somebody is seriously wounded or killed and it's shown on the news.

Me, too. However, I'm in the online "Over and Under/ReOhMyGodO" Dysentery & Zika Virus pool. I picked the total number of Olympians to be infected at 146. The D&Z pool closed at 11:59 PM tonight, EST. Although the Olympics end on August 21st all players have until September 15th to hopefully include all infected athletes.

C'mon Aedes aegypti and Guanabara Bay, do your stuff!

Well Gob - whether Brit or Oz, major athletic events are usually of no practical interest..... "Oh she got up and finished 12th - great effort there! Closest one of ours has come since 1938"

Well, we're going to watch a lot of the Women's track stuff, because my daughter is into that...

But personally, the "not interested unless there's a terrorist attack" would be my view except of course for...

The Greatest Summer Olympic Competition Of All...

I'm speaking of course, of Women's Beach Volleyball:

I agree — very skillful play!
(oh...... that's not the display you were talking about)

However, this year, there's something for the ladies to ogle too:

The Olympic sport of "Watching Paint Dry" comes in a close second.

This "handball" thing is like some sort of a combination basketball/indoor soccer thingie...weird....

I'd never even heard of it...

Has this been a "sport" for some time, or did they just make this up for these Olympic games?

I remember playing something like this in Phy Ed class back in high school in the early '70s, but I thought it was more of a "split into two teams and everyone participates" activity — and safer than dodge-ball — for when we got bored with volleyball or basketball.

Fabulous men's cycling road race today. Super exciting!

And handball was first played at the Olympic in 1936 and added as a permanent sport in 1972. The US hasn't qualified to play since 1996.

I always thought that handball was the game we used to play hitting the ball against a wall, nothing with a net or goal. You learn something every day. But tell me, how can a competition that includes this, race walking, badminton, ping pong (OK, table tennis), and golf exclude softball and baseball (I'll leave out synchronized swimming to avoid the "sexist" name calling), not to mention real football? I'm not saying any of them don't involve some form of athleticism or that it is easy to excel in any of them, but a good argument can be made for inclusion of the others as well.

What do you mean by 'real football'? Are you talking about that American game where the only time a foot is supposed to touch the ball (and the ball is not shaped like a ball) is when you are ready to give control to the other team?

They do play real football - there's a choice of two kinds:

or did you mean that pathetic 7 minute game that takes three hours played according to USian rules?

Love the olympics. Equestrian events. USA women's soccer. All the cycling track events. Swimming. Track and field. Rowing. Decathalon, &c.

sports that should never be in the Olympics:
Golf
Soccer (mens)
Rugby
Cricket
Baseball
Mens Basketball (we're too good for the rest of you, we will be forever, just get over it).
Synchronized swimming
rhythmic gymnastics (booooring)
air rifle. (not even areal gun!)
Boxing
