The women's road race was very exciting. Women's cycling has come a long way from the '80s when racing was very cautious and negative, and lacked depth.

Admit it, rubato, your redneck roots are showing.  Just like the NASCAR races at the superspeedways, where people feel they got cheated if there isn't at least one massive pileup with smoke, dust, and car parts flying all over the place, you were hoping someone would crash or get seriously hurt.  This time you got your wish.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

I didn't like the crash but the racing before and after that was great. Very aggressive riding, great attacks, heroic work by the American who missed a gold by a small margin.

The Olympics have started?
I did not know that.
I guess they are on TV. Hope they don't interfere with my TV watching pleasure.

Yusra Mardini, the Syrian Refugee Swimmer, Competes for Last Time at Olympics 2016

Image

On Wednesday, swimmer Yusra Mardini came in seventh place in her heat at the Rio Olympics. But even though this means that the 18-year-old won't go on to compete in the semi-finals for the women’s 100-meter butterfly competition, this is hardly a moment of defeat.

It was a year ago that Yusra plunged into the cold, deep waters of the Aegean Sea to help push the boat she was on — along with 20 other Syrian refugees — to safety. "I just said to myself that I'm a swimmer and I have to swim now," Yusra told Teen Vogue in an interview. And so, a story that could have ended in tragedy instead became an incredible source of inspiration.

Yusra ended up in Germany, and was initially training for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it was creating a team of refugees — and she made the cut. Yusra went on to win her first heat in the 100-meter butterfly last week. And even though she did not win her heat today, coming in seventh at 1 minute and 4 seconds, people are still celebrating her greater victory. :ok

For those of you using the MAC OS, it's a small price to pay for this minor inconvenience.

Though the Olympics isn't all that exciting, I have watched weight lifting and boxing in the past. Those events can be fun to watch.

Has the synchronized horse dancing in a pool event been on yet?

Not interested in the NAZI games. All of the innovations that the NAZIs brought to the games the Olympic committee kept. Isn’t anything that is NAZI unacceptable and should be repudiated. No liberal should watch the Olympics until the NAZI trapping are removed.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

Interesting that you are the first person here to mention "the Nazi games" in reference to the Olympics...

I'm sure you'll find this appealing lib; the trailer to Leni Riefenstahl's Olympia:

Poor Leni Riefenstahl. She was an amoral artist at an unfortunate moment in history for amoral artists. In a different era she could have been Martin Scorsese and gotten away with it completely.

It might be interesting if you would list those "innovations" the Nazis introduced that are so horrid.  The only one I can find that is definitely associated with the Nazis and the 1936 Games in Berlin is the Olympic Torch relay.
