Bugger. I've just had a look through our video collection, and I KNOW there's not anything there that you lot will guess.

Except possibly this one;

"Choose life"
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

There's no obligation that you choose a quote from a film you liked...

In fact given your taste in film, it would probably be preferable if you didn't... :P

While that's not exactly the way I would put it, (gee, Scooter, for a Canadian you sure have a lot to learn about politeness... :D )

I agree with the central point...

It's gotten excessive Ray...

Much like this pointless, silly, trivia game to which one or two members have the correct answer. And then a few other who pretend that all along they have the answer stored in their grey matter but actually needed a google search to find it.

Choose Life?

Surprised it lasted long enough for me to get it.

Sometimes that one quarter of me that is Sicilian just needs to break free. He's lucky I didn't send him the head of his favourite pet, or something.

Not that I do more than follow along with this thread, but didn't Gob give the clue "Choose life", and Crackpot answered with Trainspotting. Or did I miss something?

You are correct. But Ray has decided that because he hasn't seen enough movies to play, he is going to do his best to ruin the fun for everyone else.

Yes, we're just waiting for Strop to officially confirm it, (that's been the procedure we've followed) and then it will be CP's turn to post the new one.

What Ray is doing now amounts to trolling to create confusion and disrupt the thread.

I knew at least C-P wouuld get it.

The greatest opening monologue of a movie ever....

Choose life.

Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family.

Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin can openers.

Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments.

Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage.

Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning.

Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life

. . . But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life: I chose something else.

And the reasons?

There are no reasons.

Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?

I hate to be the one who spoils all the fun of this game. I confess the the error of my ways. (Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.) From now on if I don't know the movie's name I'm just going to make a wild guess like everyone else.

How can you call something crap if you didn't watch it?

It's brilliant, but it IS brutal too. Like Life.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

When Meade calls a tv show or movie "crap" or something similar (and this is true of some others), he is not declaring that based on artistic merits the quality of the show/movie is lousy; rather, he is stating his view (for the umpteenth time) that certain types of entertainment are not his thing, and, further, that he finds them morally questionable. No matter how well made, he will not like these gritty, violent, sex-laden, anti-hero efforts because he does not like that type of entertainment. De gustibus and all that.

Which means of course he would not like Banshee...

Which we just got finished binge watching over the past couple of weeks...

A lot of "gritty, violent, sex-laden, anti-hero efforts" in that one...

ETA:

And before we watched that one, we watched Cinemax's Strikeback...

(An Aussie playing an American, and an American playing a Brit...there are just no limits... 8-) )

But if you like a lot of machine gun shoot outs and really cool explosions (and who doesn't?)

Strikeback was a classic... :ok

That's why I didn't watch it :loon Read about it. Brilliant reviews; drugs and dregs of society, swearing and being total losers. Ergo, crap. Nothing to do with artistic merit. Just looked to me as if I'd hate everyone in it if they lived next door. Why would I want to move next door for 2 hours?

Banshee, LJ? Haven't watched it - probably won't. And I don't have Cinemax either.
