the man playing video games or watching sports while the 'honey do' list grows exponentially and the grass is two feet tall.
I haven't played video games in years and I don't even watch the Jets (J-E-T-S, Jets Jets Jets) in the fall when the game is on at 1pm. Too much to do outside.

Even in my heavy drinking days, I still took care of "outside". Heck it was easier to hide my drinking. Bottle in the garage, down the baasement, out in the first shed, out in the second shed. I had them all over. :o :D
While things did not get done as quickly, nor as well as they get done today, I did still try and do some of my chores.
And drank before, during and after doing them.
:shrug
Almost took my thumb off on the table saw (didn't go for stitches although I probably should have) and did manage to cut the tips of two fingers off (skin and some muscle) on the jointer planer while drinking and working.
And had a nasty scare when the unbuttoned sleeve of my flannel shirt got caught in the jointer planerblades. Thankfully it was an older shirt and I was able to rip it out of the blades. The shirt cuff got spit out the shavings side. That could have been bad.

I can confidently say that injuries due to table saws or jointer planers are not something I'm likely to ever sustain...

The only way I see that ever happening is if I am kidnapped by a serial killer who likes to cut up his victim's bodies... 8-)

Me and Hen got together when we were old enough and self aware enough to appreciate each other.

Hatch and the Yank seem to be making a fair go of things, despite still being kids.

Yup. Maturity has its privileges.

And I was lucky enough that my parents, despite having "traditional" gender roles in the family (Dad worked, Mom stayed home with the kids) never really divided work based on gender. They each did the things they were good at, or liked to do. My Dad was incredibly talented and could run any aspect of a home. He did some of the inside chores regularly, others when needed. Mom did some of the outside chores, and more of the inside ones. When they were first married, she worked while he went to college, so it all evened out in the end. My sister and BIL run their households similarly. Most of my closest friends are full time professionals married to the same, so house and child care are divided by who has the time and the skill when needed. Again, it generally works out pretty evenly.

I now have a sign on the jointer planer that says "NO LOOSE SLEEVES!!!" because of that episode.
Drinking or not, I have a habit of wearing flannel shirts with the sleeve cuffs unbuttoned.
No sign on the table saw though.

If you want LJ, I can teach you how not to use power tools.

Power tools, very dangerous.

Every time I fired up a table saw a radial arm saw or skil saw I had a personal mental safety ritual I would go though making sure that I knew how all the pieces of plywood, &c were going to move and how it was going to be controlled. The most dramatic was a radial saw we used to cut up to 14in steel i-beams at Zieman manufacturing. It only took a couple of seconds. And I never turned it on until I had checked my clothing, surroundings, my balance, the beam for warpage, taken a breath and said "this will take your arm off if you make a mistake".

Yeah...always need to respect power tools. I'm reminded of a couple winners I worked with...the dude that I saw changing a fuel line with a Marlboro in his mouth comes to mind. He never spoke to me again, even though I might have saved his life!

Well you could've ASKED him to put it out before you used the extinguisher on him. It's only polite. :o

That's a good one. :ok

You forgot the last part: " ... and it won't even so much as slow it down."

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

I had...but even after the thirtieth time, he didn't. I finally took drastic measures because I was concerned he would blow the shop to pieces with me inside!
