Murder one with special circumstances. Crucifixion would not be inappropriate...nor would LWOP in solitary confinement, never seeing another human being again.Bicycle Bill wrote:If it had just been the husband and the horny dude and I were seated on the jury, I would possibly agree with the idea of "the cuckolded husband acting in the heat of the moment" too. But since the guy gathered two of his friends to make it a pre-meditated three-on-one beatdown, that's something else again.Big RR wrote:Scooter--this just goes back to the old idea that the wife is the property of the husband, and that stealing someone's property is a disrespect of the person that demands retribution. So the guy stole the marine's property, and he and his buddies just did what their idea of the natural law demanded. So sure, by all means prosecute them for assault (and if we can bar the adultery as a defense that is too prejudicial (not a given) all the better). But somehow I would be concerned about a civil jury in a battery suit; they will learn the entire story and regardless of the law, when they hear of the adultery might just disregard it and say it was the victim's fault. The idea of just retribution for theft runs very deep.

That's his wife's fault. Her sin. Nobody else's obligation. That's all I'm saying here. And infidelity happens in all kinds of committed relationships, not just marriage.Jarlaxle wrote:I will ask my friend...though the herpes his cheating wife gave him probably has something to do with why he is so pissed off.BoSoxGal wrote:It's great if you have friends and family who support your marriage, but nobody is obligated to do so and certainly no spouse would be tempted to stray if s/he were not so inclined. I don't see it as cowardice because he wasn't acting out of fear. His objective was to restrain and inflict grievous bodily harm on the guy, and three people could prevent his escape more easily than one.liberty wrote:Well Mr. Meade, marine cowards you say. They go into combat because they are cowards. Well, I will have to think about that. Do you think there might be another for his desire for back up.
One would think, in his line of work, that he would have seen enough to know that doesn't always get you what you want, even if you "win". His wife might not have had any intention of continuing an affair now that he is home and he caught her, but knowing he is vicious enough to beat a man almost to death may convince her that she is better off gone.
And I'm sure this notion that the victim would have posed any sort of danger to the husband didn't occur to you because of his skin colour.
There would have been no need for "backup" of any kind if the husband had not intentionally lured the guy into his home. He could have identified himself in that text instead of impersonating his wife; if the guy really didn't know he was still in the picture that should have been enough to get him to back off. If he needs convincing, there are ways to make continued contact with his wife more difficult than it's worth without committing a felony.

First, putting on a uniform doesn't make you a patriot if you aren't already. Second, if patriotism made a nation you would now be living in the Confederate States of America. Third, the American people have always answered the call, whether on the battlefield or on the home front, when their country needed them for a cause they saw as just. Funny how the wars that attract the greatest opposition end up leaving the country and the world worse off than they were before.liberty wrote:Without patriots there is no nation: Hell no we won’t go. It's tough to know where to start unpacking that...Scooter wrote:liberty wrote:First, putting on a uniform doesn't make you a patriot if you aren't already. Re: Are married women sacred?
Don't worry Jim. I can explain....
Clothes don't make the man, only Southerners are patriotic, Americans always help out in times of need but we always destroy the place we tried to save in the first place...

Patriots sacrifice gladly on behalf of the community by volunteering to work on the behalf of society, paying taxes, or standing up and saying that the government is wrong. The last is one of the highest and most important duties of the citizen.

Re: Are married women sacred?
The most important duty of any citizen is to educate themselves on the facts about an issue so that they can speak credibly and knowledgeably when they "stand up and tell the government it is wrong", rather than stick their fingers in their ears and go "la la la" whenever presented with facts that contradict their preconceived prejudices and ignorant mistaken beliefs...
If you're standing up mindlessly and ignorantly "telling the government it is wrong" you're not a patriot...
merely a fool...
There's nothing particularly patriotic about your brand of willful ignorance rube; you should start doing your duty....

my rule, when I was single, was not to get involved with a woman if she lived with another man, married or not.
