Wow fascinating midwestern history!

Godspeed to Africa, Meade & Mrs. Post as often as you can to let us know you're still kicking it. ;)

Is there something BSG knows that you should be letting the rest of us in on Gen'l?

How do Mrs. Meade and Mr. Post feel about this?

Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Funny, LJ. I'm surprised you cut "as often as you can" from the snip

Well strictly speaking it was between a state and a territory but that was because the state was blocked the territory from becoming a state.

I admit to knowing very little about Midwestern history. Grew up in Massachusetts so I learned all the best history, and the rest just didn't seem all that relevant. :nana ;)

I thought yall was talking about the Kansas/ Missouri Border War. That was a real war. Homesteads were burned and people were murdered; I think primarily because one side felt that God had sanctioned their murders.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

Nearly all writing could be improved by reduction. Not mine, nearly all.

Homesteads heck. The town of Lawrence was nearly burned to the ground in 1856. Those border wars were a precursor to the Civil War. Kansas was a free state, and Missouri was a slave state. Many Missouri men crossed into Kansas just to vote, causing elections to be declared fraudulent.

The University of Kansas opened in Lawrence in the fall of 1866. The town seems to have bounced back from the border wars and Civil War fairly well.

Civil war as defined by George Carlin: "Pardon me. Would you mind if I shoot you"?
