Toss pillows for the nieces, grocery/tote bags for my sister and dad, and I have absolutely no idea what to do for the 16 year old nephew. What I have to work with is a mountain of upholstery fabric and a sewing machine.

Any suggestions?
Some sort of sack type bag for carrying computer games in? Or an over the shoulder skateboard bag?

I am now off until 4th January yayyyyyyyyyy I didn't manage to get in to work yesterday due to the village where I work being located at the bottom of a VERY steep hill which had decided it would far rather be an Olympic Ski Jump than a road. I went in for a couple of hours today having been told that "some" gritting had been done - unfortunately they forgot to mention that the skijump had NOT been gritted :o theres no way to see the state of the hill until you turn on to it so I had no option but to go down it and negotiate the 90 degree right turn at the bottom ... in an automatic ffs! I ended up angling across so that as I got to the bottom I was already pointed around the bend but it gave me a few heart in mouth moments - and a lot of anxiety about how the heck I was going to get back up :shrug luckily I was able to follow a tractor on a zig zag route across the hill switching back and forth and coming out on a much milder gradient at the other end of the village :ok but I have cleared my desk and decided to start my holiday a day early so as not to have to do that again tomorrow. :D
If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you may have misjudged the situation.

Kristina, I've started biking with a 'bike bag' for short trips to the store. You know here in Cali, they're going to soon ban the use of plastic bags? (I think it's by the first) Then exclusively use paper bags; which are difficult to carry on a bicycle. By a stroke of luck, I found in the back of the closet these cloth bike bags that had been given out during the Annual 'Bike to Work Day';

Image

I luv em!

You see the bag itself is narrow and the shoulder straps are really long? Compared to other reusable bags with deep or thick pouches and short straps; the Bike Bag is much easier to ride with. Putting it over your shoulder drops the weight right at your hip and the center of gravity. Other bags you have grip in your hand at the handle bars, which throws your weight off. I suppose you could sew him up a personalized one?

As for my days off, there's good news and bad news: first the bad news; you notice I'm home today? I was sent home yesterday too; without warning all the welders were told this week and next week there just wasn't enough work load to keep us in the shop. Real bad news for my next coupla paychecks.
The good news is: they know there will big orders scheduled for January and quite likely the rest of the year, that will have us all rolling in overtime dough. The bosses are happy, but this end of the year slump sucks.

My sister would kill me...

For his sixteenth birthday, he asked for (and got) a dump truck load of dirt and a one-day rental of a BobCat. He spent the day (all of it) making mountain bike ramps and jumps and trails in the woods behind the house. Didn't even stop to eat lunch!

If there were any cash available, that would be a great idea, Keld. As it is, for this year anyhoo, they're all stuck with whatever I can make!

I'm sure he'd be thrilled to have a lovely pink and gold floral bag for his hockey equipment...

Actually, that's a good idea Image!
Is this inline skate hockey or ice hockey?

Either of those have skates that are a pain to lug around without a bag. Nothing fancy, just anything with a zipper and handles ...and instead of unicorns, throw in some paint markers and tell'em to decorate it himself :ok

PS - work called, they want me to come in tomorrow ~whew~

Ice hockey, and it's not just the skates...lots of pads, helmet, gloves, smelly uniform and socks etc.

My brother plays hockey, I see the gear: he needs TWO bags. See if you can borrow his spare skates on the sly for test-fitting: one bag for skates, gloves, and clothing, the other for his helmet and a separate compartment for DIRTY clothes. Both bags should be machine-washable. If you have any, Scotchguarded fabric would be good.

Unless he's a goalie (like my stepfather), in which case he needs a luggage cart for the pads.
