I saw a report this morning that there's talk within the Trump campaign that if he loses not only will he not concede, but that he may go on pretty much like nothing ever happened, holding rallies, spewing his venom and trying to keep the Trumpanzees whipped up...

To what end, it's tough to see...

My daughter told me this morning that she read (on some site or other) that if he "loses" supporters will encourage Trump supporters to relocated to states that supported or nearly supported him. If they try to secede afterwards, I hope we tell them "good riddance" and let them go.

I can tell you whatever happens today we will not hear a concession speech from Trump tonight.

I was very fearful of that too, but Don Jr. was on Morning Joe today and he said of course his father will concede if he loses in a fair process - so I think The Donald is ready to accept a clear margin of victory for Clinton - and I think that's what is going to happen.

Whatever the Cheeto does after he loses, I don't care - because all the decent people who overlooked his racism/sexism/xenophobia because they wanted to 'shake things up' will unite behind our Madame President, and the really crazy truly deplorables who vehemently agree with Cheeto's racism/sexism/xenophobia are out in the sunlight now. And sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Should some people be so ignorant or so badly informed or so strangely motivated that those individuals be discouraged or prevented from voting, as Jim Wright expressed?

Who gets to determine the criteria for voter eligebility?
One persons supposed ignorance is another persons knowledge about thier candidate.

We will get the government we deserve. IMHO, it is preferable to encourage, rather than discourage voting. While I jopin with the concern expressed above, I do not think the results would be any "better" if we limit the pool of eligible voters to those who could show some knowledge of the candidates and campaigns--indeed, I think such a policy could be dangerous. I think most people take their vote very seriously, and while I may not agree with how they arrive at their candidate voted for, I would not have it any other way.

I'm just taking the piss, as Gob would say. I have been clear in the past that I don't believe there is any fair, objective and meaningful test that could be used to assess one's qualifications to vote.

I would include anyone who believes the 9/11 attack was an "inside job", thinks the moon landings were faked, believes in alien abduction, or who thinks Jerry Lewis is funny...

It’s election day and I’ve thought a lot about what to write here. I’ve rewritten it a dozen times. If you read here you already know I’m super liberal so you can probably guess who I voted for. If you’re like me (even if you voted for the person I despise) you’ve watched each debate and ad and tweet and endless, crazy bullshit and you feel an incredible amount of anxiety over what will happen today. I feel it too. And the thing I most want to hear right now is the thing I’m telling you.

We’re going to be okay.

We will. Because no matter who wins and no matter who you voted for you will still have the opportunity to fight each day for what you want to see in the world. Fight for justice or kindness or acceptance or love or equality or whatever it is that is still lacking. You will not fight alone. You still make a difference. In some cases you make more of a difference than a President ever will. Either way, you’ll be needed tomorrow (and every day after) to promote joy and love and grace even if you’re tired. You will be better for it and so will the world.

Lord Jim, my son the retired Navy Officer in Oklahoma sort of agrees with you. He is not voting this time. He says none of the candidates have his support. He did check out the Green and the Libertarian tickets and found them to be wackos that he says are no more qualified than the names at the head of the other parties. And he has no interest in the down-ticket offices. He says they will not do anything that will have a impact on his daily life, so good luck to them and my son is staying way from any ballot today.

No disrespect to your son, but I think he is way off base here.  I agree with him insofar as his assessment that none of the candidates are head-and-shoulders above the rest of the field, and all of them seem to be (seriously) flawed in one way or another.  But when there is a possibility of a completely unqualified and totally unworthy person emerging as the winner ... and let's face it, the fact that Trump has not self-destructed or been laughed off the political stage proves that there is that possibility ... it becomes the obligation of everyone who believes in this republic to go to the polls and express your displeasure by voting AGAINST that person, even if it does mean holding your nose and voting for the not-quite-so-offensive candidate, rather than ignoring the whole thing.

Like it or not, someone is going to emerge from today with a victory and that person is going to be POTUS for at least the next four years.  And I have never heard of any candidate who, after winning an election in which less than half of the electorate voted, ever stood up and said something like "Even though I won a majority of the votes cast, there was still over 50% of the population who DIDN'T support me.  Therefore, recognizing that show of non-support, I decline to accept the office."

As for his assessment of the down-ballot candidates — especially at the state and local levels — that is so untrue that I don't know where to begin to debunk that line of thinking except to say that the President may propose something ... but it is the representatives and the legislators who make it happen (or keep it from happening).  Otherwise Merrick Garland would have been seated on the SCOTUS bench over six months ago.

Problem #1 — Junior is putting words into Dad's mouth.  Trump can't even keep his own word, let alone someone else's.

I have never been married or raised a family; my mother passed away back in August of 2015 and my dad died in January of 1994 .... so yes, I did go alone.  It's just life, and there's no need for you to feel sorry about that.
