What time is it?
From the time stamps, it looks to me as if this board is still running on Daylight Saving Time.

You set your time preferences (including Standard versus Daylight Saving Time) in your User Control Panel , under "board preferences"...
Summer Time/DST is in effect: Yes No

Mine is set that way... but it's still stuck in DST. If I turn it OFF, then it won't go into DST during the summer. I think the board's internal DST calendar doesn't work. I've always had to toggle it manually on this board, but others I follow, it's automatic.
Death is Nature's way of telling you to slow down.
Re: What time is it?
It my be set to another country's DST schedule
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: What time is it?
time to get a watch?

Re: What time is it?
It used to be automatic on this board too Datsun, but we have so many people on here with a pole up their ass about DST, it was made manual so they would have the option to stay on Standard Time....I've always had to toggle it manually on this board, but others I follow, it's automatic.
okay, I made that up....

Seems an awful lot of trouble to login here just to check the time; haven't you all got cell phones?

The proper tool for the proper task. That's why I talk on a telephone, take pictures with a camera, check the time with a clock or a wristwatch, and use a real computer to access the internet instead of settling for a $700-$800 all-in-one device that can maybe do these things but can't do any of them as well as something specifically designed for the job.BoSoxGal wrote:Seems an awful lot of trouble to login here just to check the time; haven't you all got cell phones?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Mine was under $200 and does all of those well. (It takes better pics than my mother's camera.)Bicycle Bill wrote:The proper tool for the proper task. 1) Was $200 the actual retail cost of the phone, or is that what you paid for it after carrier subsidies?Jarlaxle wrote:Mine was under $200 and does all of those well. (You know; get the phone for $XXX but become contractually obligated to stay with Verizon or whoever for two years)
2) Don't know what kind of camera your mother had, but smartphone cameras still have not risen to the quality of a moderately-priced 35-mm format SLR in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. So if all you're going to do is take selfies or point-and-shoot pics like one gets with a little compact digital camera like this

then the camera on a smartphone is good enough.

Virgin Mobile PAYG plan, no contract. The phone it replaced cost me forty bucks.

Planning on taking a month-long intensive TEFL certification course in Costa Rica toward winter's end, followed by an initial placement in either UAE or Asia -probably Japan or South Korea. After I've worked a while there where salaries are highest and housing is subsidized, I'll take the money I've saved and go to Central/South America and/or Eastern Europe. Four years of 6-12 month contracts should let me see a fair bit of the planet, assuming some places don't end up off limits due to the President-elect's potentially disastrous foreign policies.Jarlaxle wrote:Crashing with Gob and Hen?BoSoxGal wrote:Time to move abroad.

eta: I've been seriously planning my potential exit since watching the RNC hatefest last July; I knew if he was elected I wouldn't want to be here during his tenure. And I've always wanted to live abroad. My only hesitation is my devotion to my adorable 7 year old niece. I need six more months to save up while I'm helping my cousin to finish renovations and liquidation of her mother's collection of antiques, so I'll have time to reconsider but I think at least one year working abroad is in my near future.

my phone was 20 bucks at the dollar store....
works great, Samsung, almost indestructible. it has crashed into pcs many times and I just put it back together and it works just fine.
costs me about 30 bucks a month for unlimited texting and enough time to make all the calls I need to make.
pay as you go and anonymous to boot.
just the way I like it.

See Econo - my destinations are on your chart!
Spent the afternoon being consoled by my niece; we watched Scooby Doo and she drew me a lovely picture of us & Little Bear under a beautiful rainbow. Shit like that makes it hard to contemplate leaving . . . we'll see. Maybe I'll wait until the hormones start surging and she turns into a jerk.
