White teacher suspended after wearing Michael Jordan costume

A white Ingraham High School math teacher was placed on paid leave last week after showing up to school on Halloween in a Michael Jordan costume.
After an image of Peter Colino spread through the school via Snapchat, a concerned parent reportedly contacted The Stranger with the picture.
The ensemble, which Colino said he'd worn to the North Seattle high school of 18 years, included the legendary NBA player's Chicago Bulls jersey, a sweatband, black gloves and a rubber Jordan mask -- an item The Stranger called "blackface."
"I tell my kids [every October] that Michael Jordan is coming to visit," Colino told The Stranger. "My intent was to honor Michael Jordan."
He typically shows his students -- who were likely not even alive during Jordan's prime -- a five-minute highlight reel in class on Halloween.
However, students informed him that his costume was inappropriate cultural appropriation, reports indicate.
Colino expressed remorse both to The Stranger and KIRO 7, but he reportedly learned Thursday he was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
According to a letter principal Martin Floe wrote parents: "His behavior is in opposition to Ingraham's values of racial diversity and inclusivity and have impacted our students negatively."
Colino was among the 2,000 Seattle teachers who wore a Black Lives Matter T-shirt as part of a districtwide show of solidarity in September.
He reportedly met with the school's Black Student Union Thursday and apologized, according to KIRO 7.
Colino told KIRO 7 he would no longer wear the Michael Jordan mask.

That teacher looks like an old "Lawn Jockey" statue.

“In a world whose absurdity appears to be so impenetrable, we simply must reach a greater degree of understanding among us, a greater sincerity.”
