Can someone explain to me, in words of one syllable so my feeble brain can understand, why there a has been a Democratic majority in six of the last seven elections, and we will soon have an alt-right SCOTUS for the next generation?

Three generations is more like it. We can only hope for more David Souter-type justices to find their conscience on the court. I despair for the future of my nieces and nephews.
