And the fact that the DeVos family has been actively working to break public education.

That in and of itself makes her the devil incarnate.

public education is already broken.

it needs to be fixed.

the local elementary school has turned into a mad house.

teachers and students are attacked on a daily basis. purposeful malicious vandalism is a daily occurrence.

a few short years ago it was the best elementary school in the area. people faked their addresses to have their kids go there.

thanks Obamas!!!!

As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.  Children need to be raised by their parents, not merely grown; and this means taking an active interest and having a positive presence in a child's formative years.  It is the job of parents, not the schools, to teach children certain basic standards such as what used to be classed generally as "manners" — respect, obedience, politeness, and other things that make up a civilized society rather than a pack of wolves.

So with regard to your deteriorated school .... what's the percentage of non-whites in the student body; what's the percentage of students whose parents never completed secondary education; what's the percentage of children who are not part of a 'traditional', i.e., two-parent family; and of those two-parent families, what's the percentage of students whose parents both work full-time jobs at what would be classed "entry-level" wages (minimum wage or dependent on tips for the bulk of the income).  Gather that data and then compare it to the days when "people faked their addresses to have their kids go there", and I think your eyes will be opened.

it was 4 or 5 yrs ago.. the demographics are basically unchanged.

the way the school handles problem children and parents has changed.

the fed govt controls things thru funding.

they make the rules.

they let the few ruin it for the many.

...and the middle/ high school....

when my daughter first went there in 5th grade and when my son went there they had a great dietician and cafeteria manager. she is a friend of mine from my younger days and we talk sometimes.

the food was delicious nutritious largely made from scratch with widely varied selections everyday. the kids loved it and I was amazed when I first sampled it. it was a far cry from the soybean/headache burgers of my youth.

then Michele Obama took over. the kids hate it. the manager hates it and the kids are hungry because they won t eat the crap.

The federal government has fuck-all to do with how your local school is run and the the First Lady does not dictate what's on you kid's lunch menu. The U.S. Department of Education "controls" virtually nothing through "funding," especially at the local level; your local school board makes all the decisions according to whatever criteria (if any) your state has adopted. (In fact, I challenge you to identify any program at your kid's school that "the fed govt controls thru funding.") And if you have a problem with what your kid is eating for lunch, you can take it up with the school board or, better yet, stop whining about "the government" and pack her a goddam lunch yourself.

But I'm sure Donald Trump will save your kid's school by appointing a Secretary of Education whose mission is to dismantle public education altogether.

Isn't there a chapter in most states (in Wisconsin it's Chapter 51.20) that allows for involuntary confinement and observation for up to 72 hours in a mental health facility for someone who, by their words, mental condition, or physical action, is deemed to be "... a hazard to themselves or to others" ?
I think both wesw and his buddy Donald would definitely qualify.

NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—Just days after picking Betsy DeVos to run the Department of Education, President-elect Donald Trump has tapped another wealthy outsider by naming Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán to head the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In an official statement, Trump said that El Chapo’s “tremendous success in the private sector” showed that he has what it takes to “shake things up” at the D.E.A.

Trump’s appointment of the former drug lord surprised many in Washington, in no small part because acrimony between the two allegedly prompted El Chapo, in 2015, to put a hundred-million-dollar bounty on Trump’s head.

But, appearing on CNN, the Trump surrogate Kellyanne Conway said that the selection of El Chapo should surprise no one. “Mr. Trump always said that he would surround himself with the best people,” she said.

When asked why Trump had readily offered a job to El Chapo while still mulling the fate of another former adversary, Mitt Romney, Conway said, “El Chapo might not have voted for Mr. Trump, but that’s because he’s Mexican and in jail, and Mitt Romney is neither.”

The appointment of the former drug kingpin is far from a done deal, however, as associates of El Chapo report that he is “concerned” that being a member of the Trump Administration would be bad for his brand.

Then there's this bitch who abandoned her dying brother because he was gay, after outing him to their parents:
KT McFarland, Donald Trump’s pick for deputy national security advisor, outed her gay bother to their parents in a letter more than three decades ago.

McFarland sent the letter three years before the brother, Michael Troia, died from AIDS.

After an initial hospital visit in the early 1990s, she did not see her brother in the final two years of his life, according to Washington Blade.
In a 1992 letter to their parents she reportedly wrote: ‘Have you ever wondered why I have never had anything to do with Mike and have never let my daughters see him although we live only fifteen minutes away from each other? He has been a lifelong homosexual, most of his relationships brief, fleeting one-night stands.’

It seems to me all Michael Troia needed was some good ol' gay conversion therapy. Maybe his AIDS would have been cured in the process.

Our new VP, Mike Pence, appears to think this therapy works and maybe that why he picked KT McFarland as an advisor. Birds of a feather...
