Is it Das Boot ?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

You got it dales.
Your turn.
was that too long? Much shorter than waiting for the clue.

If you buy the genesis story, the entire world was made in less time than it took for you to post a clue.

Hint: Richard Burton and Deborah Carr Kerr were in it.How calmly does the olive branch
observe the sky begin to blanch :
without a cry , without a prayer ;
with no betrayal of despair.
Sometime while light obscures the tree ,
the zenith of its life will be :
gone , past , forever .
And from thence, a second history will commence :
a chronicle no longer gold ,
of bargaining with mist and mold ;
and finally the broken stem ,
the plummeting to earth , and then
An intercourse not well designed
for beings of a golden kind
whose native green must arch above
the Earth's obscene , corrupting love .
And still the ripe fruit and the branch
observe the sky begin to blanch :
without a cry , without a prayer ;
with no betrayal of despair .
Oh, courage ! Could you not as well
select a second place to dwell ?
Not only in that golden tree
but in the frightened heart of me ?
It was released in 1964.

Do you think you could give a little more of a clue Dale?
That's really not much to go on...

I have no idea
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Name That Movie!
Another clue:
Maxine Faulk: What the hell are you doing, Shannon?
T. Lawrence Shannon: I just cut loose one of God's creatures at the end of his rope.
Maxine Faulk: What for?
T. Lawrence Shannon: So that one of God's creatures could be free from panic, and scamper home safe and free. A little act of grace,

Re: Name That Movie!
Okay, well now we've got the names of two of the stars, the year it was released, the names of two of the main characters, and a six stanza-long quote...
I'm getting the distinct impression that there may not be a whole lot of people here who've seen this movie...
(which is a shame because it's a real classic)
If nobody gets it by later this morning, I'm going to take it...

Re: Name That Movie!
Or, as has been expressed over and over, there are those of us who just don't retain movie lines. I've seen the movie, it is a classic, but I had no idea based on the lines - I had to look it up.

Re: Name That Movie!
I have a pretty good guess, but Jim said he'd take it this AM so I'll hold off. But another hint--the script is by Tennessee Williams.
Re: Name That Movie!
I'll also add one more clue more before I take it...
The character "Maxine Faulk" that Dale quotes in his second clue was played by Ava Gardner...

Oh, sooo close Meade...
It fits just about every clue, except of course that it wasn't released in 1964...
