For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Headline does not match the text. It is a lie.

stupidity, stupidity, stupidity,

ignorance, ignorance, ignorance,

cluelessness, cluelessness, cluelessness

yrs,

I've been debating whether or not to respond to this latest bit of idiocy, because this is one of those situations (that frequently occurs) where I'm reasonably sure that just about everyone else here "gets it", but no amount of education on the subject will get through to The Santa Cruz Thickie...

So in one sense responding is kind of pointless since nobody else needs any further explanation, and the one person who does will continue to miss the point anyway...

But I've decided to respond because responding is likely to result in further hole digging by rube, and I could use a good chuckle...

Rube, you of course have many ways of expressing your stupidity, but few are more amusing then when you believe you have triumphantly seized on some insightful and relevant point, when in fact all you have done is shine a klieg light on your utter cluelessness...

Dale's response to you, "WGAS" , is precisely the appropriate retort, unless one believes that (as you apparently do; otherwise attempting to make the "point" you did makes no sense) that it was all together appropriate, rational, and justifiable for Castro to seek to have a a US attack on his regime responded to by the Russians launching an all-out thermo-nuclear attack on the US ...

An attack which, (at a minimum) would have resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of Americans and Russians, as well as (as the second article points out) the complete destruction of Cuba and the deaths of nearly every one Castro's own subjects...

What you can't grasp, (but I'm sure everyone else does) is that the authors and headline writers of those articles weren't trying to conceal some "relevant point" that undermined their reporting. They understood, that given the magnitude of what Castro was seeking, his motive needed to be mentioned but wasn't relevant to central point of the completely insane "solution" he wanted. They also assumed that their readers would understand that as well. (But of course they never counted on having a reader as feeble -minded as our rube...can't really blame them for that... there's the lowest common denominator, and then there's rube)

It's also worth noting that while the US carried out military actions against numerous Soviet backed regimes during the Cold War, no leader of any of those regimes, (including Ho Chi Minh) other than Castro ever tried to persuade the USSR to respond by starting WW III and bring on an Armageddon that would have undoubtedly resulted in the complete incineration of their own country...

No, it takes a rare sort of nihilistic, sociopathic lunatic (which clearly Castro was) to seek that kind of "remedy"...

And it takes a rare sort of moron to think that it would have been rational or justified for someone to seek that sort of "remedy" ....

so far as we know--there are plenty of other crazies among those leaders as well. And I wouldn't doubt some of the more militant (and crazy) leaders among the regimes we backed asked for the same thing. Thankfully, the Russians and we weren't crazy enough to even consider such a move.

Kennedy made a deal to remove nuclear missiles from Turkey, right on the border with the USSR in exchange for USSR removing missiles from Cuba, 80 miles from U.S. .

A straight horse trade.

Cuba was asking for the same protection which we offered to NATO; if they attack we will respond in your defense. If the Russian tanks roll west from E. Germany we will use tactical nuclear weapons to stop then. What is reasonable for one is reasonable for the other.

The ANC would have welcomed our help to defeat Aparthied but we were helping the whites, who were murdering them instead. That limited their choices to the less savory ones.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
