unsure

Post by wesw »

last night I learned that my son and his girls were in an accident. I m going to see them as soon as the sun rises.

he was on an unfamiliar country road. singing loudly with the girls. (1 1/2 and 4 yrs)

he blew thru an unexpected stop sign and was t-boned.

the truck rolled, not sure how many times, and he was ejected from the vehicle into a field.

afterwards, he got up and pulled the girls from the truck.

the 4 yr old was beat up pretty bad and is still hospitalized for observation. the one yr old seems to be ok. not sure of anything yet.

my son broke his tailbone had a severe laceration of his arm, which was crushed , but unbroken, as far as I know. he is also beat up pretty badly, from what I know now.

the other driver is apparently ok, the airbag saved him, I suppose.

I m a bit dazed and confused myself right now.

thank god every one is alive as of this writing, as far as I know.

thanks and prayers

Best wishes. Smack your son a few times for driving carelessly and not wearing his seat belt.

Wow wes, really sorry to hear about this...

It sounds like given the extent of the accident it's a miracle your son and grand kids weren't more seriously hurt...

Best wishes to all for a speedy recovery...

Keep us posted and make sure they are being checked for internal injuries especially the little ones. Even though side impact is less likly to produce the hidden internal injuries that frontal impacts can create (especially in improperly installed or adjusted child seats (which most are)) is best to be sure.

I hope they all are ok and heal quickly. Go be with them, and let us know how they are when you can.

I don't do prayers, but I hope they will all be okay...especially the grandkids. Best wishes to all of you, and yeah, like Crackpot said, that son of yours deserves a few smacks upside the head. (But not right now.)

Best wishes to you and your family. Lower Delmarva is not noted for great medical services but we can hope for recovery.

If it was anywhere near a modern vehicle it looks that bad because it did what it is designed to do destroy itself to protect the occupants.

wesw, did your son have x-rays taken at the hospital? If not, you might want to urge him to have them done.

Back in '88 I was involved in a head-on collision when a doper decided to drive into my lane of travel. I thought I was OK (no airbag), I even took a roll of 35mm photos to show the accident scene and the driver's condition.

However, for a week after, I was in much pain but I put up with it thinking it would eventually subside. It didn't. I was in bed and suddenly heard a loud "tearing" noise from my abdomen. Intense, blinding pain followed -- I couldn't stand up straight. Knowing I was in trouble I quickly drove myself to the hospital and, almost blacking out in the ER, it was soon determined that my spleen had ripped open and my blood was at high toxic levels. A total splenectomy soon followed. Another deadly situation averted.

Although most spleens that experience traumatic injury will burst immediately at the scene, not all do. And if medical attention cannot be given within minutes of the rupture it can have fatal results. If your son is having any abdominal complaints let him know the nasty repercussions that might be in store for him.

You can thank me later.

I just clicked on this.

Sorry for the accident, wes.

However it seems that all worked out as well as can be expected.

thanks guys.

the girls are good.

the little one has a hurt shoulder but should be ok.

the older girl has a some bad bruises and face scrapes but is as bouncy and happy as ever.

my son is not so great, but may have escaped structurally sound. he was concussed pretty badly, I think.

thanks
