Ok, Hatch is at her father's for Xmas this year, so Hen decided that we should not have "traditional" Xmas lunch. She's invited Hatch's dad, Hatch, and the mother in law around for a Xmas afternoon tea. No worries. BUT. She then proceeded to dig out all our "Delicious" magazines to look for Xmas buffet type things to make. She saw some nice things. Lots of nice things in fact. Lots and lots and lots of nice things.
So, the table will be laden with.
Individual pumpkin and mushroom Wellingtons (v) (H)
Sashimi Oysters (H)
Savoury bread scrolls with cranberry, chestnuts, caramelised onion and cheese. (v) (H)
Chicken drumsticks in plum marinade and curry marinade (H)
Herby breaded lamb chops (H)
Parmesan fritttas with asparagus and corn. (v) (G)
Quorn in plum sauce. (v) (G)
Broadbean salad. (v) (m-i-l)
Individual mushroom tarte tartin (v) (G)
Blue cheese and walnut pate (v) (G)
Lentil dahl pate. (v) (G)
7 Aussie cheeses with water crackers. (v) (G)
Lemon curd and rasperry tartlets (v) (H)

We got some bits done yesterday, but we've been up since 6.00 am, and apart from walk the dogs and go to the shops to get all the things we've forgotten it's been all hands on the stove!

Good onya.....ours was simple this year..I couldn't be arsed due to making 17 Cookie Christmas Trees which we finished at 330 am Weds morning!

I spent the entire day yesterday preparing and cooking - for today there's only me, hubby & the dog, but tomorrow Xeno, dil-to be and their dog will be joining us for the traditional Boxing Day bubble n squeak with cold meats and pickles, so I had to do enough veggies so there would be "leftovers" to fry up
plus of course my extra special Xmas gravy needed to sit overnight and infuse with all the lovely tastes of the stock etc.
Today it's traditional Turkey with all the trimmings followed by christmas pud with brandy butter & cream (we aren't having a starter as we'd rather have a bigger dinner.
This evening it's cold meats (Turkey, honeyed ham, roast beef), cheeseboard including a selection of Welsh cheddars, leek & bacon puffs, sausages, pickles and crackers, followed by rum & rasin ice cream.

I expect to go straight to hell...........at least I won't have to spend time making new friends.

Bubble and squeak is a traditional English dish made with the shallow-fried leftover vegetables from a roast dinner. The chief ingredients are potato and cabbage, but carrots, peas, brussels sprouts, and other vegetables can be added. It is traditionally served with cold meat from the Sunday roast, and pickles.
Traditionally, the meat was added to the bubble and squeak itself, although nowadays it is more commonly made without meat. The cold chopped vegetables (and cold chopped meat if used) are fried in a pan together with mashed potatoes or crushed roast potatoes until the mixture is well-cooked and brown on the sides.

home made shortbread (made by the above mum and also the girlfriend)

fererro Roche chocolate (xmas presents - we seem to have a ton of it)
Toblerone bars (presents - another ton)

We stopped having Christmas roasts etc years ago - it was always a bit of overkill when I lived in the tropics (not pleasant for people slaving over the hot stove in an already humid atmosphere!), and we came to prefer the casual barbeque or cold meat idea better. easy to prepare and a more relaxed 'feel' to the whole day, plenty of scope for people to wander in and out the house and 'graze' on the food.
