Congressman Says Trump Will Repeal Federal Protections for LGBT Workers

Donald Trump has signaled that he plans to repeal federal protections for LGBT workers while in office, according to U.S. Rep. Steve Russell.

The Republican lawmaker was the man behind the Russell Amendment, a piece of legislation that would have allowed religious organizations an exemption from President Barack Obama’s 2014 executive order prohibiting companies with federal contracts from discrminating against employees due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. That amendment, which was attached to the National Defense Authorization Act, a defense spending bill, was tabled last week.

Russell told BuzzFeed News that the Trump administration has offered him “very positive signals” that the White House will take the matter into its own hands.

“These issues will be resolved, and we have gotten some very good assurances moving forward,” Russell said, positing that the president-elect would take executive action on the issue in order to bypass congressional Democrats. “I am certainly encouraged by the signs that I am getting from the administration that is inbound.”

“The vagueness was created by the executive branch, so the executive branch [under Trump] could un-create the vagueness,” Russell told BuzzFeed News. “You reverse it by clarifying a bad executive order with a good one.”

LGBT civil rights organizations have warned that the Russell Amendment — and other bills like it — would have the opposite effect, defining too broadly which groups can in good faith claim religious affiliation. Any organization that wishes to terminate LGBT workers, many have warned, could be safeguarded under a faith-based exemption.

Although Russell refused “to talk strategy or predispose what the executive branch may do,” Trump has already stated that the Obama orders would be on the chopping block. In an outline of the president-elect’s 100 days in office published October 22, Trump stated that he will “cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by President Obama” on his first day in office.

You want clarity, Congressman? Here's some clarity: If you don't believe that LGBT workers deserve employment protection, then you hate LGBT people. If you believe "religious" organizations should be allowed to discriminate against LGBT workers, then you hate LGBT people.

Is that clear enough for you?

In Bay City, Michigan, a gay couple found a homophobic note in their mailbox, according to MLive.

Kris Harris and Neil Wolicki, claim they found the note, but it was a friend of theirs who posted it on Facebook, which then saw it being spread on social media.

Reading ‘Faggots get out! Trump Country!’, it also features a backwards Swastika inside the O.

A day later, an unidentified person named only found a homophobic note in Shelby, North Carolina.

Stephanie McKellop shared the note, which she says was left on a friend’s windshield, on her Twitter account.

‘Time for faggots to go back where they belong,’ it reads.

‘Trump is president now. No more marriage, no more rights, no more faggots.’

In replies to another user, she identifies the finder as Justin, saying he is ‘very scared and upset’

Rightwing pundit calls on Trump’s health secretary to end HIV/AIDS programs

Lina Harvey, founder of the anti-LGBTQ Christian right organization with the video game sounding name Mission: America, has penned an article for WorldNetDaily in which she calls on Donald Trump‘s pick for health secretary to make some serious changes to the CDC‘s HIV/AIDS messaging.

Namely, she wants Tom Price to tell the world that gay people don’t really exist.

“But many Americans have wept as sons, brothers and friends have perished from AIDS, and long for an Uncle Sam public health message that tells the truth: No male ever needs to engage in anal sex with another male, and we need to stop accommodating homosexual behavior and ‘gay’ identity at the CDC,” Harvey writes.

She calls the CDC HIV/AIDS program a “nest of vipers.”

“Will CDC continue to treat homosexual behavior as a respectable identity instead of what it actually is – high-risk, unnecessary deviance that no one needs to engage in?” she continues.

“CDC has become largely ineffective on the HIV/AIDS issue related to homosexual behavior, adopting shoot-itself-in-the-foot tactics of self-perpetuation. For instance, one new CDC HIV program is called ‘Doing It.‘ This suggestively named campaign validates the known transmission vehicle of anal sex.

“‘Doing It’ refers to the recommendation to get tested for HIV. That’s the current CDC epidemic-management emphasis, virtually ignoring the real solution: abstinence.”

Ironically, studies have shown that abstinence only sex education results in more oral and anal sex, not less.

“No male is ‘gay,’ first of all, and the CDC’s own clinical description of the transmission category, ‘males who have sex with males,’ has avoided the nebulous ‘gay’ label in favor the more accurate description of behavior. So why use misleading identity-politics terms? The agency culture seems to favor propping up the mythological ‘gay’ identity, when it should be dismantling it,” Harvey claims.
