Nonetheless, I stand by the essence of my statement. Please, explain how the 1950s were so 'great' for women, people of color, or even children?
I was attempting to be light-hearted (in responding to older's post) and not taking everything so dam seriously as you appear to.

Lighten up, gal! :ok

And bsg went on sowing more good cheer:

By the way, fuck you, dales.

my response:

And a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you!

I hope 2017 is a better year for you than 2016. You have been on a downhill slide since the elections. :(

Besides, dales wasn't a man in the 1950s. He was a kid when things like polio, TB and other fun diseases were still popular.

I wonder Dats, are you in a "union" state where the laws protect all union members to a great extent?

Well, you don't go to jail for permit violations, you just get fined. If you don't pay the fine, you get a lien placed on your property. But even then, if you don't get the permit you can't sell the property for 2 years after the violation (you can have that lifted by getting a permit and having the work inspected). It's basically designed to punish house flippers that don't pull permits.

Yes, this is a very Union-Friendly state. There are a lot of jobs you cannot get unless you join the union (compulsory union membership). Then there are jobs which the union is "voluntary". In quotes, because you still have the union dues deducted from your pay, even if you're not a member, as a fee. Heck, there are some jobs that the union won't allow you to join the union but you are required to pay the union protection fee because it falls under their umbrella.. Freaking racket at that point. Unions have done much good, but making them mandatory is just legal racketeering.

Oh please, you aren't being persecuted. I simply made a statement - which by the way, has been made here before by others.

Dales, again, I'm so very sorry I have 'issues' that bother you. So very sorry I've been on a 'downhill slide' since the election.

You know, some of us feel more threatened by the incoming administration than others might. Some of us can't easily hide behind our white guy privilege - or we have young black nephews, or young Muslim goddaughters, or precious, spunky & beautiful grade school age nieces with whom we live who are already asking questions about the behavior of the new President that we find impossible to answer.

So yes, that can really put a damper on one's mood. I'm hardly the only person feeling a bit bleak about things these days. And no, I'm not planning on 'snapping out of it' to please some guy on the interwebs who has his whitey tighties in a twist because I have the opinion that the years of his childhood weren't such a grand old time in American history.

So, happy fucking new year, dales! :fu

'Above all, argue' - unless your opinion rubs any of the old straight white guys here the wrong way. Then, it's apparently just STFU, you have issues. Sad. (Sounds like a fucking Trump tweet, by the way.)

Same to you! :nana

And seek professional help.

You sound like one who's afraid and fearful and filled with hatred and anxiety towards old white guys.

eta: I work with people with mental health issues and have done much "coach time" for my own issues. You obviously sound like someone who is hurting. You project your own insecurities upon others.

Sad. :(

I'm not feeling "persecuted", whatever gave you that idea?

Just a bit bored, full of ennui, that everything now has to be judged by how good it was for black, transgender, lesbian, single-parent, vegan, refugees. As if that is the be all and end all.

That some have to inject their virtue-signalling misery into each and every event.

Bored with it, not persecuted.

dales, what an insufferable arrogant asshole you are. I don't fear you, old white man; I find you nearly - but not quite - beneath contempt. Now I'm ignoring you, so hopefully you enjoyed your last nasty fucking personal attack on me, you impotent piece of shit.

eta: in consideration of the edit in your post, you do realize that only the most mentally twisted people consider themselves capable of diagnosing others' alleged mental health problems over the interwebs, especially when they have fuck-all education or training in mental health treatment? I'm absolutely certain that I have many more university level credits in the study of psychology, including abnormal psych, than you have. Coming from decades of working with people with mental health issues, I'm guessing I might also have as much if not much more experience actually dealing with them and reading actual mental health evaluations, and researching and educating myself on specific diagnoses. So I think I'll tell you to kindly fuck off with your contemptible advice that I 'seek professional help' and your diagnosis that I have deep-seated insecurities that cause me to call out arrogant fucking assholes when they post arrogant, thoughtless, white privileged misogynistic things on the internet. And yes, dumbfuck, it's the very embodiment of misogyny when a man calls a woman 'hysterical' a/k/a 'mentally ill' because she doesn't agree with his privileged bullshit. I can totally see why you think the 50s were great, and I'm quite sure when it comes to women you and Donald could happily ride that bus and shoot your mouths together. I'm also pretty sure that just like Donald, you're nothing but a legend in your own mind.

I think I am nearly, if not actually one of the oldest (born before WWII) straightest (been married to the same person of feminine gender for 51 years) whitest (only brits or celts in my genetic family for at least the last 5 generations) posting here. I have no perception of white male privilege in my personal life.

I do think that non-perception could be because it is a reality that has been so pervasive in my environment that I am blind to it. I do look for posts from BSG because I find them interesting.

In just about 6 hours I shall greet the New Year with a salute from my genuine cast iron Big Bang carbide cannon. It is almost loud enuff for RayThom to hear it. So if the dogs in your neighborhood begin howling in objection to the noise Ray, you can blame me.

That's called "Fair Share".  Since the union must, by law, represent everyone at the workplace only a scum-sucking bottom-feeding slimy spineless freeloader would be that kind of employee that does not contribute anything to the union but still thinks it is OK to reap the goodies that the union negotiates with management in terms of work conditions, wages, benefits, and other things.

Well you should have! And you should apologise for it, and feel guilty.

Get on the virtue-signalling bandwagon you old fuddy duddy!

Okay, so I'm supposed to not refernce my 18 college credits in psychology, half of them upper level, or the two decades of continuing independent research and formal CLE in mental health issues, or the fact that it's generally understood to be malpractice to diagnose mental or physical illness via internet boards, because no, dales is right, I *must* be totally mentally ill (sad!) for having an opinion different than his and then having the gall to defend my opinion in the face of not a reasoned argument in response, but rather a pathetic personal attack?

So very funny, Joe Guy.

You guys ever wonder why it's the same small group of you that perpetuate this place and so many other voices have all but disappeared?

Because most guys on message board like this have extremely poor social skills, which is why we're here typing on a computer screen instead of out getting wasted with our non-existent friends on a Friday/Saturday night? Or, in this case, New Year's Eve?

Well, that's me, at least. Everyone else has their own reasons.

I can see that Dale's comments are personally offensive. I think the comment that perpetuated them was offensive as well, especially being a generalization. Which is why I jumped in. I shouldn't have, but I can't help myself. I've been accused on more than one board of having no tact. No, it's not just here, I do it in my real world interactions as well. Can't keep out of other people's business- which is sort of why what friends I do have are other people that overshare like I do. We can offend each other with our lack of tact or filters and still be friends.
