Re: Charles Manson Dept.
Since you're not a woman, LJ, I'd expect that to be your answer. But frankly I think the ramifications of how Pence has consistently treated women and gay men and women is more institutionally troubling than the Trumpanzee's flirtation with Putin --- if for no other reason than much of America will get fed up with that dance, and I think if nothing else Congress and the intelligence community will reign him in.
No question the Trumpanzee is a lunatic, and a misogynistic ass, but his primary motivation is self-aggrandizement and lining his pockets, plus he isn't an ideologically "pure" conservative. Pence is a hard-core idealologue who would move us back to the time when women were chattel --- and he has many in his (your) party who would be right there with him.

Here's the latest........
Manson, 82, was at California State Prison, Corcoran as of Saturday, said Jeffrey Callison, a spokesman for the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
“We never stated he was anywhere else,” Callison said in an email. “Medical privacy laws do not allow (the department) to discuss inmates’ medical issues, if any.”

Serial killer Charles Manson, seen here in 2014, returned to California State Prison, Corcoran after a hospital stay, officials said Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017.
The department has declined to comment on reports from TMZ.com and the Los Angeles Times that earlier in the week Manson was taken to a hospital in Bakersfield, 60 miles south of the prison.
While the prison has medical facilities, California prisoners generally are sent to outside hospitals if they need “surgical services, emergency care, or diagnostic services of an acute nature,” Joyce Hayhoe, a spokeswoman for the federal receiver who controls prison medical care, said Tuesday.
Manson is serving a life sentence for orchestrating the 1969 murders of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and six others in Southern California. Messages like “Pigs” and a misspelled “Healter Skelter” were scrawled in the victims’ blood on their walls and doors.
The cult leader had attracted disaffected young people who lived in an old movie ranch on the edge of Los Angeles that Manson turned into a commune. Prosecutors said Manson and his “family” of followers were trying to incite a race war he dubbed “Helter Skelter,” taken from the Beatles song.
Manson, followers Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie Van Houten and Charles “Tex” Watson were convicted of murder and sentenced to death.
All were spared execution when a U.S. Supreme Court [that would be the California State Supreme Court under the illustrious Rose Bird]ruling temporarily banned the death penalty in 1972.
Another Manson Family member, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, was never charged in the murders but went to prison later for trying to assassinate President Gerald Ford in 1975. Fromme, whose gun didn’t fire, was paroled in 2009 after 34 years behind bars.

God help us if Trump actually does drain the swamp, because I don't think I could stand whatever else we'd find once the water level has gone down and everything that is lurking around in there is free and out in the open.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A parole panel on Wednesday recommended the release of a former follower of cult leader Charles Manson after California governors blocked four previous parole recommendations.
Bruce Davis, 74, had his 31st parole hearing at the California Men's Colony at San Luis Obispo as he serves a life sentence for the 1969 slayings of musician Gary Hinman and stuntman Donald "Shorty" Shea.
Davis was not involved in the more notorious killings of actress Sharon Tate and six others by the Manson "family" the same year.
During the half-century since the slayings, parole panels have now decided five times that Davis is no longer a public safety risk. Officials cited his age and good behavior behind bars that includes earning a doctoral degree and ministering to other inmates.
Governors, however, have the final say on release. Gov. Jerry Brown will have about five months to consider the latest recommendation.
Brown rejected the previous recommendation last year. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger also concluded that Davis remains too dangerous to be free.
Davis testified at his 2014 hearing that he attacked Shea with a knife and held a gun on Hinman while Manson cut Hinman's face with a sword.
"I wanted to be Charlie's favorite guy," he said then.
Attorney Michael Beckman, who has been fighting for years for the release of Davis, said he is the most rehabilitated prisoner among the 2,000 he is representing in the penal system. "There's no one even a close second," he said.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey called the Manson-related slayings "some of the most horrific crimes in California history." She objected to the possible release of Davis.
"We believe he continues to exhibit a lack of insight and remorse and remains a public safety risk," she said in a statement after the parole decision.
Gary Hinman's cousin, Kay Martley, said Davis' crime was so heinous that he should die in prison.
Hinman was tortured for three days, Martley recounted in remarks prepared for the parole hearing.
"This wasn't a crime of passion or impulse; this was slow, calculated and cold-blooded," she wrote.
Martley, who traveled from Hinman's native Colorado to attend the parole hearing, said she was angry about the recommendation.
"Just because he's going to be 75, he's considered a low risk even though they said he has a personality disorder that he's going to have to work on — his narcissistic behavior, need for acceptance, his grandiosity."
Davis was convicted with Manson and another follower, Steve Grogan, in the twin slayings. Grogan was paroled in 1985 after he led police to Shea's buried body. Robert Beausoleil, convicted in Hinman's death, remains in prison.
Manson and followers Leslie Van Houten, Patricia Krenwinkel and Charles "Tex" Watson are imprisoned for the Tate killings. Their co-defendant, Susan Atkins, died of cancer behind bars in 2009.

Manson family member Patricia Krenwinkel denied parole
By Stephanie Becker, CNN

NEW: Patricia Krenwinkel is denied parole
She is claiming that she was abused by Charles Manson
Los Angeles (CNN) — Patricia Krenwinkel, a Charles Manson follower convicted in a 1969 killing spree by Manson family members, on Thursday was denied parole for the 14th time.
She will be eligible again for consideration in five years.
Krenwinkel, 69, was convicted of seven counts of first-degree murder in the August 1969 Manson family attacks that left seven people dead. Among the victims was pregnant actress Sharon Tate, who was married to director Roman Polanski, Folger Coffee heiress Abigail Folger, and celebrity hairstylist Jay Sebring.
The crimes captivated people during a turbulent time in the nation's history. Prosecutors say Manson hoped to spark a race war with the grisly murders.
Thursday's parole hearing was a resumption of a December 2016 meeting, which was suspended after Krenwinkel's attorney claimed that his client was a victim of "Intimate Partner Battery," often referred to as "battered wife syndrome," by Manson. The break allowed for an investigation into the claim.
Krenwinkel's attorney, Keith Wattley, had declined to predict how the panel would react, but said he was encouraged that they are considering the abuse issue.
"There is no new evidence, no new allegations," he said. "It's just that this time I asked the panel to consider the psychological and physical abuse. The fact is that the board had understood the influence" with other members of the Manson group.
Tony LaMontagne, the grandson of the LaBiancas, told CNN that he attends these parole hearings to support his grandparents, "but the hearings revictimize us," by having to listen to the details of the crimes.
Here are some quick facts about Krenwinkel's case:
-- She has been incarcerated for 47 years and is the longest-serving female inmate in the California prison system.
-- Krenwinkel was sentenced to death in 1971, but a year later the California death penalty was ruled unconstitutional and her sentence was commuted to life. The death penalty has since been reinstated.
-- Krenwinkel has now been denied parole 14 times.
-- On the first day of the killing spree, she pursued and stabbed Folger 28 times, Krenwinkel said in court testimony. She later complained her hand hurt from the stabbings, prosecutors said.
-- Krenwinkel testified that she stabbed Rosemary LaBianca on the second night while LaBianca pleaded for the life of her husband, Leno. Krenwinkel said she later scrawled "Death to Pigs" on the wall with the blood of Leno LaBianca.
-- Krenwinkel claims she met Charles Manson when she was a 19-year-old secretary, and has said that she both feared and loved him.
-- Because she was 21 years old at the time of the crimes, she now qualifies for youth parole consideration, based on a 2016 law.
-- Convicted Manson followers Leslie Van Houten and Bruce Davis were recommended for parole. Gov. Jerry Brown denied them both.
