I think there's an instructive comparison that can be made here with George W. Bush...‘He Has This Deep Fear That He Is Not a Legitimate President’
In 2001, there were many, many people running around calling him an "illegitimate President"...
Did he feel the compulsion to respond by attacking every liberal celebrity or lefty activist or politico who threw this charge at him?
No...
He completely ignored it all, and went on about his business...
In 2005, there was a smaller but very vocal group making the same charges, claiming some kind of conspiracy in Ohio stole the election for him...
Barbara Boxer even tried to hold up the Congressional certification of his re-election...
Did he respond by showering endless vitriol on Boxer, or obsessing over the press that covered the claims, or whining endlessly about how unfairly he was being treated?
No...
Again, he completely ignored it and went on about his business...
"Completely ignore it and go on about your business" is a course that Donald Trump is simply too fundamentally insecure to be able to follow, and it is this crippling inability that may ultimately prove to be his undoing...
