Ah, I don't hang around in such bad places. Those men are not very clever. And Big RR, it's just your memory....

oh gosh, you make it about "white males" calling women "pigs" ?

I just don t like litterbugging

I m sure that you all were neat and orderly in your demonstration

it is not always the case.

sometimes there is broken glass and there are burning cars too, which is worse than litterbugging

wallow in and embrace "nasty" if you want, I just think that it is ineffective and sad

One thing I think the marchers deserve a big shout out for is that as far as I can see, there were no reports of physical violence or vandalism at any of the events. (Not even in Oakland :o )

The is a truly phenomenal and noteworthy achievement, considering the huge number of people and locations involved.

I do have a question however, for Guin or anyone else who attended one of these rallies...

I have read reports of women who were anti-abortion being badly treated by some of the other participants at some of the marches. (I've read these reports not in right-wing blogs, but in the NYT and on vox)

These are not women who came out to "counter demonstrate" in favor of Trump; they are women who are opposed to Trump, but who are also opposed to abortion. (I've read reports that they were shouted at, one says she was spat on, also that pro-life women's groups were told they would not be welcome; one group was apparently officially uninvited.)

Did anyone who attended a rally see any of this?

It seems to me that this kind of thing is not politically smart. Politics is a game of addition, and an approach that says, "You may be opposed to Trump, his misogyny and see him as anti-women, but if you're not "pro-choice" we don't want you" doesn't sound like a good coalition building strategy to me.

The Tea Party didn't construct it's political effectiveness by taking one single issue and making it a litmus test for who they would welcome.

Jim--I didn't see any of it in NYC. If it occurred there, it wasn't widespread.

The Protest Marches Begin...

Post by RayThom »

For security reasons trash containers and dumpsters are removed from most parade routes and crowd venues. Permits for public events almost always include an indemnification clause for litter and trash removal. Some group -- government or organizational -- accepts responsibility for it.

This type of litter is anticipated, and considered the price of doing "First Amendment" business. My thought is that many of these signs will be archived by the Feds and even checked for fingerprints and DNA.

It's the times in which we live in.

Unfortunately that makes perfect sense...

Trash containers are great locations for bombs... :?

Or dumpster fires.  Just look and see what has happened after any number of Super Bowls, World Series, or NBA Championships.
And those were celebrations, not protests!

Didn't see anything like that in Chicago, either.
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

No damage or aggro of any kind in Columbia MO that I saw. I did not stay to the end but I saw plenty of people walking home with their signs. There was one 20-ish Trump supporter (Trump emblazoned on his sweater) but he was completely ignored.

Solidarity chain around U.S. embassy in Ottawa following Trump's Muslim ban.

(As an aside, whoever constructed that complex could not have done a better job of evoking Soviet gulag if they tried.)

That is a truly hideous looking building... :?

A really good example of Stalin-era "Socialist Realist architecture"...(A lot of buildings in Pyongyang look just like it...)

BTW, I meant to mention that my hippie vegan daughter participated in the march is Ess Eff...(She went with a couple of her girlfriends; I didn't find out till after the fact.)

I also asked her if she had seen any anti-abortion people getting hassled, and she didn't see that either...
