The Time Has Come To State The Obvious

Post by Bicycle Bill »

TRUMP IS A CHRONIC AND UNAPOLOGETIC LIAR (big surprise, right?)
http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/comme ... trump-liar

Image

Here's his latest one .... now he's proposing that the border wall he promised to build — the one he said he would make the Mexicans pay for — be funded with the revenue raised by a 20% tariff on goods imported from Mexico.  So what this means is that even if he is able to accomplish this, the wall will end up being paid for not by the Mexicans but by Americans who buy imported Mexican items; Mexican items whose prices will be inflated because of the tariff that Trump intends to add.

And how did he settle on 20%?  Why not make it 35%, or even 50%, and make it a YUUUGE wall, a great wall, a wall that shows how great America can be and that we as Americans can be proud of!

Mexico is currently our 3rd largest goods trading partner with $531 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2015. Goods exports totaled $236 billion; goods imports totaled $295 billion. The U.S. goods trade deficit with Mexico was $58 billion in 2015.
Mexico | United States Trade Representative
Mexico then does the obvious and slaps a 20% tariff on all US goods and the economies of both countries are hurt in the downturn. People are laid off as manufacturing is shut down (and foreign competitors in China, Taiwan, Germany Japan &c scoop up the business. As unemployment and poverty spread in Mexico people are even MORE motivated to come here and more die crossing the deserts or finding new and dangerous routes.

Rather than taxing imports, trump should charge a fee/tax/tariff on the remittances sent back to Mexico/Hondoras/San Salvador/etc by the illegals working here.
From here:
http://www.cairco.org/issues/remittances
....
Remittances are essentially a tax-free transfer of wealth out of the U.S. Approximately $20 billion of Mexican remittances each year disappear from the U.S. economy via the institutionalized money transfer industry, never to return. While this massive amount may be considered virtual foreign aid, it is a non-sanctioned transfer of wealth that is based on a fundamental violation of America’s immigration and employment laws.

Why don't we like just admit them to citizenship, and then tax their income like everyone else.

Oldr, even if such a scheme were to survive legal challenges, (a dubious proposition) and you could devise a cost effective way to collect the funds,( a highly dubious proposition) you still can't get around the fact that damaging the Mexican economy (which removing this money would clearly do) will create a larger flow of illegal aliens into this country, not a smaller one. (and the same is obviously true if we damage the economies of the other countries on your list.)

I find little evidence that our president is a liar. To be a liar one must speak or write things one knows are not true.

The president's knowledge, attention span, memory, ability to process data are all so small that I see no evidence that he can even understand the basic dictionary definition of 'true'.

Only if they leave first and get on the line (at the back).
Kick in the face to all who came legally.
and you could devise a cost effective way to collect the funds
That's not hard. Wire transfer companies and banks already report over a certain $ amount being transferred. Large cash deposits are too (above 10k or 15k IIRC). Lower the amount required to report on out of country wire transfers.
will create a larger flow of illegal aliens into this country
Build that wall, either physically or electronically, preferably both.

Where there is a will, there is a way.
Doing nothing is what caused this mess.
RR was the last one who really tried to do something and went about it humainly. But congress dropped the ball and didn't hold up their end.

we have a lot of Vets who need jobs too.

battle seasoned ex-special forces and ex-infantry could easily patrol the environmentally sensitive areas where we don t want a fence...

a few retired Seabees could build the wall , where we need it, in two shakes of a monkeys tail....

And they'll do it or Trump will cut their pensions, their disabilities, and their Social Security.

Here's a thought — if Trump wants to "Make AmeriKKKa Great Again" maybe he should re-institute something like the old WPA (Works Progress Administration), the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), and the other vast "New Deal" public works programs that built American infrastructure in the 1930s.  A lot of the stuff that was built back then, while it may not be high-tech, is still standing and still serviceable.  And the program puts people back to work; results in repairs and/or improvements to crumbing infrastructure; and reduces if not eliminates the "welfare mentality" that seems to have permeated our society over the past four decades.

Of course, he'll never do it.  The original "New Deal" programs were enacted and brought about by Franklin D. Roosevelt — a Democrat — and his passionate hatred for anything that bears even a tinge of Obama, Democrats, or liberal policies means that anything like this is automatically off the table.

By the way — referring to monkey tails?  Now who's talking out of the other side of their racist mouth?

I think more a combination of Ronald McDonald and harry Reams, a clown and a big prick (personality-wise, not physically). TR and FDR

Can you find the recording where FDR brags about grabbing women by the pussy? Or the one where he mocks a disabled reporter? Or the one where he tells his supporters that he'll pay the legal fees of any of them who assault a protestor at his rally?

Or maybe the one where he approvingly quotes Mussolini...

Drumpf is a combination of Huey Long and George Wallace, with Richard Nixon's worst qualities (and none of his positive ones) thrown in for good measure...

And as for the quote--lots of people are hated (sometimes with good reason), and most probably said "I welcome the hatred". Using that phrase no more makes you like FDR than saying "believe me" makes you the pope.

I agree with Jim--Hey Long/ George Wallace/ Nixon are all good comparisons (and I'd say all of them said "I welcome the hatred at one time--I recall Nixon talking about how that adversity (people hating and mocking him) made him strong like fire makes iron into steel.

Bingo, LJ and BigRR.

It's a ridiculous comparison. And as for TR - the Trumpanzee is already starting to dismantle TR's great achievement - our national public lands (he signed the Antiquities Act of 1906 which started the federal lands system). Jason Chaffetz has bills pending to sell off federal lands and the Trumpanzee budget priorities will include same, plus cutting back NPS, NFS, and other public lands agencies (and/or allow unfettered exploitation of mineral, gas, and oil resources). I'd be willing to bet neither the Trumpanzee nor his family have ever spent time at a National Park.

TR also was a proponent of consumer protection. The Trumpanzee has zero respect for that concept (he doesn't even understand it).

Trump thinks he is entitled to dictate terms to Mexico and make their president accept them and when his petulant idiocy is rejected he says its "NOT FAIR!" and makes even stupider threats.

He has been surrounded by Republican yes-men for so long that he has lost all touch with reality.

When I was a small child, I had a toy not dissimilar to this one;

You pull the string at the back, and it churns out a limited number of stock phrases.

He reminds me a lot of that toy, does our rube.

You can't blame republicans for Trump's behavior. He has been a democrat, independent and republican. He treats them all equally. He doesn't listen to any of them.
