We also had an inauguration where Mr. Dumb'old Trump stood up and, with his hand on a Bible and with the name of God on his lips, SWORE AN OATH that he would "... to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."  Maybe you'd like to watch it again to refresh your memory?



So if you're going to defend anything, you should be defending the Constitution ... all of it, not just the parts you like.

And then maybe we should send Mr. Trump a copy of the Constitution so that HE knows just what the hell it is that he was promising to "preserve, protect, and defend".

Wes apparently believes that when we elect a President, that person is supposed to become the unquestioned dictator with unfettered powers, subject to no check on anything they chose to do, until we have the next election...(Well, at least if it's a President he happens to approve of...)

That is how it works in some countries, (Russia comes immediately to mind) but that is NOT how it works here....

Under our system, the process of reviewing the actions (and the actors) of government is a constant and ongoing one. This is absolutely essential to prevent tyranny. The architects of the Constitution well understood this and that's what they deliberately built in remedies against tyrannical encroachment beyond simply holding elections.

As Madison famously wrote in Federalist 51:

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. Hello, separation of powers. It's not just a cute phrase, its the basis of the structure of our entire government. The Founders were terrified of too much power being placed in any one person or entity, and thus sorted duties and responsibilities among the three branches.

But that goes to the essence of my comments. The little minion and his Trumpanzee friends can bleat about an Amendment or two, but apparently none of them have read the Articles -- you know -- the actual Constitution, prior to any amendment, which sets out the structure of government. If you haven't familiarized yourself with the Articles first, the Federalist Papers will make no sense.
