Maybe we could just annex the coastal and northern states, and you all could just stay put? :D
Personally, I don’t believe in bros before hoes, or hoes before bros. There needs to be a balance. A homie-hoe-stasis, if you will.

I have to believe that the least legally defensible part of this is the attempt to prevent Green Card holders from re-entering the country...

I don't see how that can stand up; they have to be guaranteed more due process than this...

More great news -- federal court in Boston issues a further clarifying order and National 7-day stay at 2AM this morning -- no detentions, denials of visa holders, or "enhanced security" procedures. Carriers may not prohibit visa-holders from getting on US-bound flights.

I know and respect the Magistrate Judge that issued the order. A terrific day for the Constitution!!

That's great to see, because the initial order seemed to just put these folks in limbo, for the most part leaving them stuck at the airports...

Sadly, this cruel and senseless EO is emboldening dirtbag behavior:
DA: Man kicked Muslim woman at JFK airport, said 'Trump is here now'

Prosecutors said a Massachusetts man kicked and berated a Muslim airline contract employee at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City on Wednesday evening.

The Queens District Attorney's Office suggested 57-year-old Robin Rhodes mocked the woman's faith by fake-praying on his knees and shouting that President Donald Trump "will get rid of all of you."

Rhodes, of Worcester, was charged with nine counts including multiple hate crimes for the incident, which occurred in the airport's Delta Sky Lounge.

Brown said Rhodes, who had arrived from Aruba and was awaiting a flight to Massachusetts, approached the office door where a Delta employee was sitting and asked, "Are you (expletive) sleeping? Are you praying? What are you doing?"

Rhodes then punched the door, which hit the back of the woman's chair.

The woman, who was wearing a hijab, asked him what she did to him. Rhodes responded, "You did nothing but I am going to kick your (expletive) ass."

Prosecutors said Rhodes then kicked the woman in the shin. She then went to a corner of the office to get away from him. Rhodes kicked the door, made his way into the office and prevented the woman from leaving.

The district attorney said a person intervened to calm Rhodes down. At that time, he stepped away from the door and the woman was able to escape to the lounge's front desk.

But Rhodes, Brown said, followed her, then got down on his knees and bowed in the manner of a praying Muslim.

"(Expletive) Islam, (expletive) ISIS, Trump is here now," Rhodes shouted. "He will get rid of all of you. You can ask Germany, Belgium and France about these kind of people. You will see what happens."

Rhodes, after he was arrested, told police, "I couldn't tell if it was a man or woman because their back was to me and they had something covering their head."
[gee, that would have made all the difference... ]
The district attorney's office said the women suffered pain and redness in her right leg. Rhodes faces up to four years in prison and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

Brown said, "The bigotry and hatred that the defendant is accused of manifesting and acting upon have no place in a civilized society."

Delta spokesman Anthony Black called this incident, "totally unacceptable."[ya think?]

"Delta has made its stance clear on these types of events," he said. "People who are violent or who exhibit bullying behavior are not welcome."

Of course, I'm sure the Trumpanzees will call this "fake news", claiming it either never happened or that the guy was really an anti-Trumper trying to make the Trumpanzees look bad...

More protests against Trump's immigration policies planned

(CNN)More angry protests against President Donald Trump's immigration policies are set for Sunday across the country after hundreds of demonstrators converged on airports the day before.
Protests are scheduled today in Washington, Orlando, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle, and Chicago, mostly at airports.

The protesters come amid turmoil caused by the travel ban, issued by Trump on Friday night and barring entry to the US from seven Muslim-majority countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia. Part of the ban was halted by a judge in a federal court in New York on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in alt-reality land:
Trump says his immigration ban is ‘working out very nicely’

President Trump on Saturday touted his executive order blocking citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States.

The order has led to people being turned away and detained after landing in the country. In response, a large protest broke out at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City, with notable demonstrations at airports around the country. Speaking in the Oval Office to reporters, Trump denied that the order was meant to target Muslims and cited the scenes at American airports as evidence that the ban is a success.

“It’s not a Muslim ban, but we were totally prepared. It’s working out very nicely. You see it at the airports, you see it all over,” :loon Trump said, according to a White House press pool report.

The order, which took effect on Friday afternoon, affects citizens from Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Libya and Somalia. It bars people from these nations from entering the United States for 90 days. Authorities said this includes people with current visas who may have temporarily departed, some of whom were detained or turned around after attempting to return to the U.S.

Trump’s order also stops all refugees from being allowed to enter the country for 120 days and halts the entry of any refugees from Syria indefinitely. On Wednesday, Yahoo News asked White House spokesman Sean Spicer about the order in his daily briefing. Spicer described it as an effort to take the “necessary steps” with people from countries that have “a propensity to do us harm” and framed it as part of Trump’s campaign promise to establish “extreme vetting” for immigrants.

During the presidential campaign, Trump called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims” entering the United States. That proposal subsequently evolved into a vague promise of “extreme vetting.” In addition to measures affecting immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries, top Trump administration officials have not ruled out the possibility of taking steps that could affect people from those nations who are already in the U.S. — including deportations or the establishment of a registry.

Trump’s “Muslim ban” is a huge gift to ISIS
  • ISIS says the US is at war with Islam. Trump just helped them make their case.

ISIS has been trying for years to convince Muslims around the world that the West — and especially the United States — is at war with Islam. President Donald Trump’s new executive order on immigration will make it much easier for it to make its case.

The executive order — which bans all immigrants and visa holders from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US for 90 days, bans all refugee admissions for 120 days, bans Syrian refugees indefinitely, and puts Christian refugees at the front of the line — plays right into the ISIS narrative.

No immigrants from any of the seven countries on the list — Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Sudan, and Somalia — have killed Americans in terrorist attacks in the US. Not one. What immigrants and refugees from most of those countries are doing, however, is fleeing repression, violence, and war — in the case of Iraq and Yemen, wars started or supported by the US itself.

By blocking refugees from several Muslim countries and prioritizing Christian ones, the Trump administration seems to be sending the message that the US doesn’t care about Muslim suffering. ISIS propagandists couldn’t have said it better themselves.

ISIS (and al-Qaeda before it) has long focused its propaganda on a putative laundry list of crimes the US and its Western allies have supposedly committed against Muslims around the world. It seeks to convince Muslims living in the West that their governments are against them, and that they must therefore take up arms and defend Islam against these attempts to destroy it.

For instance, in one issue of its online propaganda magazine Dabiq, ISIS warned that, “Muslims in the crusader countries [i.e., the West] will find themselves driven to abandon their homes … as the crusaders increase persecution against Muslims living in Western lands.”

The biggest problem with that argument is that, while the US is involved in several wars in Muslim-majority countries — and does support dictators who repress Islamist political parties in several others — the US is a pluralistic, liberal democracy where people of all faiths (and no faith) are free to practice their beliefs as they see fit, with very few restrictions.

The fact that nearly all of the estimated 3.3 million American Muslims love their country and the rights and freedoms they enjoy in it directly contradicts the ISIS message.

Even in the darkest days after 9/11, President George W. Bush stated explicitly that the US was not at war with Islam. In a December 2002 speech at the Islamic Center of Washington, DC, in celebration of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, Bush told the assembled crowd:
    • Here in the United States our Muslim citizens are making many contributions in business, science and law, medicine and education, and in other fields. Muslim members of our Armed Forces and of my administration are serving their fellow Americans with distinction, upholding our nation's ideals of liberty and justice in a world at peace...

America treasures the relationship we have with our many Muslim friends, and we respect the vibrant faith of Islam which inspires countless individuals to lead lives of honesty, integrity, and morality. This year, may Eid also be a time in which we recognize the values of progress, pluralism, and acceptance that bind us together as a Nation and a global community. By working together to advance mutual understanding, we point the way to a brighter future for all.

In February 2016, President Barack Obama gave a moving speech at a mosque in Baltimore, telling Muslim Americans that they belong:
    • I want to speak directly to the young people who may be listening. In our lives, we all have many identities. We are sons and daughters, and brothers and sisters. We’re classmates; Cub Scout troop members. We’re followers of our faith. We’re citizens of our country.

And today, there are voices in this world, particularly over the Internet, who are constantly claiming that you have to choose between your identities — as a Muslim, for example, or an American.

      Do not believe them.

If you’re ever wondering whether you fit in here, let me say it as clearly as I can, as president of the United States: You fit in here — right here. You’re right where you belong. You’re part of America, too.

You’re not Muslim or American. You’re Muslim and American.
Perhaps, even more important, though, was seeing the US take in thousands of Syrian refugees, both Muslim and Christian. That was more than just words — it was action. And it served as a strong counterpoint to the vision of an America at war with Islam.

But now, thanks to Trump’s executive order, ISIS’s message can seem a lot more convincing. If you're a young, confused Muslim kid seeing Trump advisers like Rudy Giuliani openly admitting that this is a “Muslim ban” done “legally,” it’s a lot easier to believe an ISIS recruiter who tells you the American government is at war with Islam.

Trump’s strategy to counter ISIS, which he laid out in a separate executive order published on the White House website on Saturday, emphasizes the need to use “public diplomacy, information operations, and cyber strategies to isolate and delegitimize ISIS and its radical Islamist ideology.”

Giving ISIS their biggest propaganda win of the last five years is a strange way to go about doing that.

Indeed, on Saturday, Republican Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham issued a joint statement making that exact point: “Our most important allies in the fight against ISIL are the vast majority of Muslims who reject its apocalyptic ideology of hatred,” the senators explain. “This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security.”

“Ultimately,” they write, “we fear this executive order will become a self-inflicted wound in the fight against terrorism.”
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

STATEMENT BY SENATORS McCAIN & GRAHAM ON EXECUTIVE ORDER ON IMMIGRATION

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released the following statement today on the President’s executive order on immigration:

“Our government has a responsibility to defend our borders, but we must do so in a way that makes us safer and upholds all that is decent and exceptional about our nation.

“It is clear from the confusion at our airports across the nation that President Trump’s executive order was not properly vetted. We are particularly concerned by reports that this order went into effect with little to no consultation with the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security.

“Such a hasty process risks harmful results. We should not stop green-card holders from returning to the country they call home. We should not stop those who have served as interpreters for our military and diplomats from seeking refuge in the country they risked their lives to help. And we should not turn our backs on those refugees who have been shown through extensive vetting to pose no demonstrable threat to our nation, and who have suffered unspeakable horrors, most of them women and children.

“Ultimately, we fear this executive order will become a self-inflicted wound in the fight against terrorism. At this very moment, American troops are fighting side-by-side with our Iraqi partners to defeat ISIL. But this executive order bans Iraqi pilots from coming to military bases in Arizona to fight our common enemies. Our most important allies in the fight against ISIL are the vast majority of Muslims who reject its apocalyptic ideology of hatred. This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security.”

Meanwhile CBP in some airports are refusing to comply with the Courts orders. Protests are continuing. In LA the police deployed in riot gear to LAX ---- even though all the protests have been entirely peaceful. Clearly they are trying to intimidate.

But we are not going way. Fuck that noise.

No, dipshit, people who believe in the rule of law are "hardwired", as you put it, to see the law followed by everybody.
Especially the lawmakers themselves.
Just keep on kissing Trump's butt, wesw, and as a friendly suggestion you may want to stock up on kneepads so you will at least be comfy while you're doing so.

Wes. What troubles me is not so much that you think that this is a game to distract the opposition. It's that you think so little of our countries core principles that they are to be used as fodder for a cheap game of political oneupmanship.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Ignore the little minion people, he has no fucking clue about the Constitution or the rule of law. And on top of that he has been brainwashed by cynical master manipulators (Bannon and the King Trumpanzee) who used him and his ilk for their own nefarious purposes --- mostly to line their own pockets but also to try and establish their own totalitarian regime.

Anyone around here who has read my posts over the years knows that I am a long-time hardcore national security/WOT hawk...

I opposed weakening the Patriot Act, I have no problem with Gitmo, I was highly critical of Obama's dithering and minimalist approach to Islamist terrorism, and if I had my druthers Manning and Snowden would be spending the rest of their lives in adjoining cells in the deepest darkest corner of Super Max (if not swinging from ropes)

That having been said, what Trump unleashed on Friday was nothing but an act of senseless capricious cruelty just for the sake of sending "the message" that he is capable of using the Presidency to engage in acts of senseless capricious cruelty...

What a splendid message to send to the country and the world...

It was an act of raw sadism against a group of completely defenseless people who had already been well vetted, and had a perfect legal right to be in this country...

But quite apart from the multitude of legal and moral issues involved in this, it was just plain STUPID from a policy standpoint, if your goals are to protect this country from terrorist attacks and put the Islamist Jihadists to rout...

One of the other lovely "messages" Trump sent was, "If you are an Iraqi or a Syrian risking your life to work with us to defeat ISIS, we will tell you to go fuck yourself"...

We and our allies cannot prevail in bringing down the "Caliphate" (which really has to be Goal One of the WOT..our primary problem in this country with Jihadist terrorism is " Islamist inspired" terrorism... The principle way to deal with that is to make them a whole lot less "inspiring", and that means putting them on the run) without the help and support of the Iraqis and the Syrians working with us.

Trump's idiotic order just made that task vastly more difficult. He has not only dealt a severe blow to the strategic goal of bringing down the caliphate, but he has also greatly increased the danger to our personnel already serving in the region.

At a single stroke he has severely undermined our ability to conduct offensive action against ISIS, endangered our troops in the field, and handed a huge propaganda victory to the enemy...

All for no greater purpose than to show the world that the American President delights in sadistically bullying innocent, vulnerable, defenseless people who wish absolutely no ill to this country, and represent absolutely no threat...
