Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

That looks like something that Ming the Merciless would have forced Dale Arden to wear...

WTF was Nicole Kidman wearing at the SAGs?
Maybe Kidman knows the true meaning and importance of the Hollywood, back-slap, "awards season" and she dressed accordingly.
One thing for sure, she momentarily deflected the conversation from Trumpian politics to esoteric "fashion." It harkens back to Björk at the Academy Awards 2001.

That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw Kidman's dress, that Bjork wore one bird and Kidman was trying to one-up her by wearing two.

They look like fire breathing dragons to me.

Bjork is a continually interesting and creative artist. No matter if I like it or not.
Nicole Kidman married Tom Cruise and bore his seed.
There are differences, after all.

No she didn't, they adopted. Those adoptive children don't speak to her because she's a suppressive person. Sad.

Or is it because she's not a scientologist?
sorry--I guess that's what you meant by calling her a "suppressive" person--it took a few minutes to get it.
ETA2: F?WIW, splitting families is probably my biggest gripe with scientology. Their beliefs are "out there" but anything that can help make Tom Cruise a star must have something going for it--is Ryan Secrest a scientologist?

Risky Business, et al. made Tom Cruise a star. I suppose the panacea offered him by that sick cult might account for some of his drive, but the talent was there before he became a Scientology freak.
At this point, I'm betting there are many people (not just me) who refuse to watch his films anymore; I haven't watched one since he ridiculed psychiatry and folks who find usefulness in it. He makes me ill to look at so why waste the ticket price? I might have missed some decent movies but ah well.

While I grant you Risky Business showed some talent (and I don't know if he was a scientologist then), nothing else he has done even approaches that, and Hollywood is full of one hit wonders. The fact that he keeps getting new movies amazes me, and I wouldn't doubt it has something to do with scientology (and probably its connections in the industry IMHO). The guy can act like a complete ass (remember him on post partum depression and how it does not exist?) but he still gets role after role.
Re: In lighter news, wtf was Nicole Kidman wearing at SAG aw
The guy can act I really want to dislike him and find most of his big budget choices boring but he does pop up in good movies here and there. I really wanted to hate him in Collateral but I think he played the role perfectly (he wasn't supposed to be a character you found likable). And you have to give it up for his complete departure from everything he ever had done before in Tropic Thunder.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: In lighter news, wtf was Nicole Kidman wearing at SAG aw
I don't think he was into Scientology at the earlies part of his career, he was introduced (I think) by Mimi Rogers.
Tom Cruise actually became a megastar after Top Gun, which made him a 'heartthrob'. He's not a terrible actor, but he's pretty cookie cutter - even before I hated him, it was never anything more than watching Tom Cruise in a movie. I put him in the same category of 'talent' as someone like Julia Roberts. He gets movies because he's a big box office draw. I'd be surprised if his career remains strong as he ages, as there are many, many better actors.
When I mentioned the psychiatry thing, it was the whole insulting thing about negating post-partum depression and the efficacy of SSRIs and CBT that I was referring to.
I don't watch Mel Gibson movies anymore after learning what a sick monster he is, either. I think the big studio execs back in the old days were right to be concerned about too much of the actors' private lives getting out to the public.

Truly his finest role. I genuinely loved that movie, and his part in particular.Crackpot wrote:And you have to give it up for his complete departure from everything he ever had done before in Tropic Thunder.

You people, you’re glib. You've clearly not done the homework. And you don't know the subject -- and you should. You don’t know the history of psychiatry. I do.
If you don't know what Ritalin is you should be taking it.

Re: In lighter news, wtf was Nicole Kidman wearing at SAG aw
well to each his/her own. I think he did have some talent (Risky Business proved that), but he decided to rely solely on his good looks (which ain't all that good IMHO, but then your opinion may vary) and walked through his roles (roles he was often miscast for); nad that's my point, he can play dislikeable characters, or even the same character every time, and if he does a good job I will give him credit--but I don't see that with Cruise. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some better acting (and I'll admit to not seeing Tropic Thunder). I can't help thinking that scientology has something to do with his success.Crackpot wrote:The guy can act I really want to dislike him and find most of his big budget choices boring but he does pop up in good movies here and there.
