Harry Potter author JK Rowling has hit back at Twitter users who threatened to burn her books following her criticism of President Trump.
Rowling's recent Twitter feed has been filled with her retweets criticising the president's recent travel ban.
Some followers have taken umbrage with her stance, with several saying they have burned her books or plan to do so, and one suggesting she "should stay out of politics".
But the novelist has proved a match for her critics with her mocking responses.
One Twitter user said they would now "burn your books and movies, too".
Rowling hit back: "Well, the fumes from the DVDs might be toxic and I've still got your money, so by all means borrow my lighter."
Another said she had "just burned all their Harry Potter books after being a fan for 17 years".
Rowling's riposte? "Guess it's true what they say: you can lead a girl to books about the rise and fall of an autocrat, but you still can't make her think."
Another Twitter user posted: "You're a grown ass woman whose entire career is based on stories about a nerd who turns people into frogs. Stay out of politics."
Rowling responded: "In - Free - Countries - Anyone - Can - Talk - About - Politics.
"Try sounding out the syllables aloud, or ask a fluent reader to help."

These Trumpanzees are morons, I bet many of them don't even own books! Would they criticize A.A. Milne? C.S. Lewis? Dr. Seuss? J.R.R. Tolkien? Children's and young adult literature is no less art!!

It's an ignorant personal attack having no logical bearing on her right to have a political opinion. But that's what you mindless Trump minion are best at, of course. If Rowling had come out in favor of Trump, the same commenter would have lauded her excellent writing, of that I have no doubt. Most of those Twitlers admit being fans of her writing, and they're going to destroy the books they bought just because she doesn't have the same politics as they do. There is really nothing stupider than that.

I agree. Here's a chance for many up-and-coming cartoonists to make a name for themselves, as Trump is going to single-handedly usher in the New Golden Age of Political Cartooning for the 21st Century ... and I for one am going to thoroughly enjoy every one of them. I just hope that Garry Trudeau will be allowed free rein by his syndicate; if he is, "Doonesbury" will enjoy a wave of popularity it hasn't seen since the days of VietNam, Nixon, and Watergate. -"BB"-
And here they come ....
Thanks, Guin, for putting it on your photobucket. -"BB"-
Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Ah that's nothing. Berkeley Breathed has been on fire since he returned the other year. It's reason enough to join FB to watch his genius. He is also on twitter @bloomcounty. If you Google the handle I think you can see the posts without having a twitter account or even opening the app. In any event, you should get over whatever issues you have with social media to follow him. Seriously.

The very worst thing about this new President is that he has destroyed the otherwise wonderful game of bridge.
These days, everyone shouts "Seven No Trump" and the game can never end because no one ever gets points below the line
