Lots and lots of well-prepared lawyers
Re: Lots and lots of well-prepared lawyers
White House fuming (I can only imagine the temper tantrum). Issued a press release they had to pull back and revise, removing characterization of the court's Order as "outrageous." Because pissing off the federal judiciary is never a smart move, even when you're already insane. And hai, the work of running the nation prolly interfered with the King Trumpanzee's planned vacation this weekend, so let's get extra cranked.
Has anyone noticed that the craziness coming out of the regime seems to escalate on Fridays and Saturdays? I think it's when Kushner and Ivanka are unavailable to do damage control (because of the Sabbath). Not my original observation, but it's spot on.

Am I the only person who is positive that "Outrageous" was Trump's contribution to the press release?

Re: Lots and lots of well-prepared lawyers
If Trump had simply issued an EO banning the issuing of new visas to people from those seven countries, and if he hadn't included language that makes exceptions for people based on their religion, and if he hadn't included Green Card holders, even though it would still have been a stupid and counter-productive policy decision he probably would have been on very strong legal ground given the broad powers the law affords a President on making immigration policy.
But of course that would not have been splashy or reckless enough for Trump...
He had to try to throw his weight around in the most dramatic way possible, consequences be damned...

Re: Lots and lots of well-prepared lawyers
Key point from the Washington order, it gives the attorney generals of every state standing to sue. That's yyuuuuuugggggge.
It's also forward looking, and not reliant on a specific plaintiff. The MA order was mooted last night because the plaintiffs made it in, and not longer have an actual controversy ( although I thought the complaint was drafted more broadly than that, but will have to review it. The New York complaint and order are definitely broader).

Re: Lots and lots of well-prepared lawyers
Here's the most shocking thing you'll learn all weekend...
Lord Dampnut is making personal attacks against the judge who stayed his EO

Lord Dampnut is making personal attacks against the judge who stayed his EO
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/t ... art-234645Trump lashes out at the ‘so-called judge’ who rebuked his travel ban
President Donald Trump on Saturday lashed out at the federal judge who issued a broad block of his executive order restricting immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, calling his ruling “ridiculous.”
“The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!” Trump tweeted at 8:12 a.m.
The rebuke came hours after U.S. District Court Judge James Robart, an appointee of President George W. Bush, ruled in favor of the attorneys general of Washington state and Minnesota on a lawsuit they brought seeking to overturn the travel ban.
Robart’s ruling marked the most sweeping condemnation of his immigration and refugee crackdown, which has roiled the U.S. and other countries since Trump signed the executive order on Jan. 27.
Trump’s attack on Saturday morning is not the first time that he has attacked a judge who has challenged him.
During the presidential campaign, Trump repeatedly railed against U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the federal judge presiding over civil fraud lawsuits against Trump University. Trump questioned whether the Indiana-born judge could be impartial, calling his Mexican heritage “an inherent conflict of interest.”
The president, in his morning tweet rant, also vented about the general idea that his executive order would be rebuffed.
“When a country is no longer able to say who can, and who cannot , come in & out, especially for reasons of safety &.security - big trouble!” Trump tweeted, adding, “Interesting that certain Middle-Eastern countries agree with the ban. They know if certain people are allowed in it's death & destruction!” [Gee, that's a new one. I'd really like to know who these "Certain Middle-East countries" are. I can understand why Syria might be in favor, (Assad would prefer to kill his people rather than let them escape) but who are the other ones?]
The inflammatory language is especially notable considering that a statement from the White House on Friday night in reaction to Robart’s order was toned down.
"At the earliest possible time, the Department of Justice intends to file an emergency stay of this outrageous order and defend the executive order of the President, which we believe is lawful and appropriate," White House press secretary Sean Spicer said in the original written statement. "The president’s order is intended to protect the homeland and he has the constitutional authority and responsibility to protect the American people."
Spicer's statement was reissued about 10 minutes later to remove the word "outrageous."
[I'll bet Trump was unhappy about that]

Also notable, two weeks in and Lord Dampnuts is already on vacation!

Re: Lots and lots of well-prepared lawyers
You say that like it's a bad thing.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Lots and lots of well-prepared lawyers
Is it just me, or does it seem like it's been a helluva lot longer than two weeks?

Re: Lots and lots of well-prepared lawyers
He's generated enough mistakes in two weeks than a barely competent politician with a energized opposition could hope to dig up.

If only they were mistakes -- implying accidents. Some, perhaps. Most, a cold and calculating scheme to demolish the Constitution and the judiciary, and to consolidate executive power, in an effort to enrich himself and his friends.

Guin, you really need to abandon your cold and calculating scheme to demolish the Constitution and the judiciary, and to consolidate executive power, in an effort to enrich yourself and your friends...

Lots Of Well-Prepared Lawyers
U.S. District Judge James Robart has just blown any chance to be nominated for a seat on the SCOTUS for at least the next four years, if not eight.
He should have kept his fucking mouth shut.
He should have kept his fucking mouth shut.

Round Two...
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/poli ... /97517810/Appeals court denies Trump request to immediately restore travel ban
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal appeals court denied early Sunday the Justice Department's request for an immediate reinstatement of President Donald Trump's ban on accepting certain travelers and all refugees.
The Trump administration appealed a temporary order restraining the ban nationwide, saying late Saturday night that the federal judge in Seattle overreached by "second-guessing" the president on a matter of national security.
Now the higher court's denial of an immediate stay means the legal battles over the ban will continue for days at least. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco asked challengers of the ban to respond to the appeal, and for the Justice Department to file a counter-response by Monday afternoon.
Acting Solicitor General Noel Francisco forcefully argued Saturday night that the president alone has the power to decide who can enter or stay in the United States — an assertion that appeared to invoke the wider battle to come over illegal immigration.
"The power to expel or exclude aliens is a fundamental sovereign attribute, delegated by Congress to the executive branch of government and largely immune from judicial control," the brief says.
Earlier Saturday, the government officially suspended the ban's enforcement in compliance with the order of U.S. District Judge James Robart. [Well at least he's going to comply with the order. That wasn't a given...]It marks an extraordinary setback for the new president, who only a week ago acted to suspend America's refugee program and halt immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries the government said raise terrorism concerns.
Trump, meanwhile, mocked Robart, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, calling him a "so-called judge" whose "ridiculous" ruling "will be overturned."

Its actually about Round 7, and for those scoring at home:
Lawyers - all the wins
Regime - "loosers"

Bit of a combo over at the Old Bailey.
That cartoon reminded me of the famous Zapiro:

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
