Until the Deflategate Scandal (and more importantly the stonewalling and cover-up), I wouldn't have given a rat's patootie which of these two teams won today, but now of course I will be rooting for the Falcons, (or more precisely against the Patriots)

Before that scandal I had no opinion of Tom Brady, but as a result of all the arrogance and hubris he displayed not just in clearly being behind the rule breaking but his appalling behavior afterward, (the destruction of evidence, the attempts to intimidate the league, his continued refusal to admit his guilt, etc.) I have developed an intense dislike for him. (And shame also on the entire Patriots organization for obstructing the investigation and trying to cover-up for him.)

The man is a complete phony, and despite his undeniable physical talents, his deeply flawed character makes him totally unworthy of holding the record for the most Super Bowl wins for a QB.

So I'll be rooting against Donald Trump's favorite Quarterback...

Jim we went over this. You are supposed to be rooting FOR the Patriots.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

(Not born here, but I've lived in New England longer than anywhere else, at this point in my life, and I don't give a flying eff what anyone else thinks about the Pats!)

I suppose I should just be grateful that it didn't wind up as a Patriots vs Cowboys Super Bowl...

In that case, I would have had no choice but to put on my industrial strength gas mask and root for the Patriots...

It would have been a choice for me a lot like the Presidential election...

Choosing the detestable over the unthinkable... :?

That right there is reason enough for me to hope Atlanta wins, if their doing so can in any way irk off Herr Drumpf.

As an aside, I wonder if Trump figures he also knows more than all the generals in the DoD head coaches in the NFL, and will pull a Nixon and tell Belichek to run a certain play at some point during the game.

If you knew anything about Bill Belichick you'd know that's a total non-starter.

Bob Kraft's never done this:
Falcons owner Arthur Blank is taking all of the team’s employees to the Super Bowl

It's an incredibly classy gesture by Blank. Granted, he's a really rich person, but this isn't something that's cheap.

There are roughly 150 people listed on the Falcons official staff directory page, operating in one capacity or another with the team. It's safe to say that there are probably more people involved as well, employees who aren't listed on that page.

So Blank is going to need to pony up for a ticket to the Super Bowl for all of these people (let's get super conservative and set the price at $2,000 per person). He's going to have to fly everyone to Houston and he's going to have to put people in hotels.

It's not unreasonable to project something in the range of $3,500 per person for the trip and it's not unreasonable to project more than 300 employees making the trip for the Falcons.

Here's another nice Super Bowl story:
Former President Bush 'fired up' for coin toss at Houston's Super Bowl

Image

Expect an emotional crescendo as former President George H.W. Bush, an avid Houston sports fan, flips the coin before kickoff at Sunday's Super Bowl LI.

It's a moment that the 92-year-old Bush and his wife, Barbara, easily could have missed if their health had not improved last month.

The 41st president will appear before a global audience just six days after his release from Houston Methodist Hospital, where he was treated for pneumonia, which included a stint in the intensive care unit. At one point, both Bushes were patients at the hospital. The former first lady, 91, was admitted for a few days as a precaution for bronchitis.

The impetus for their appearances at the big game was their love for sports, admiration for their hometown and commitment to the invitation extended in December by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath said Saturday.

"President Bush is the most goal-oriented person you can meet. When he sets a goal out there on the horizon, it's almost like he wills himself to achieve it," McGrath said. "They feel great. They've been taking it easy since they've both been discharged from the hospital - saving up their strength. They're just fired up and didn't want to overexert themselves and risk not being able to make it. They're so focused on this and so proud of their hometown."

Anybody Followng The NFL Playoffs?

Post by RayThom »

And in the end:

It's only a football game.

I will be recording SBLI in case some real news worthy event occurs. That said, there are so many other things to keep me amused from 5:00 PM til after midnight. Life is too short for all this commercial silliness.

Motherhood, Jesus, apple pie, and Super Bowl... as a consummate nonbeliever in all things held dear by the idol starved masses I am fairly sure I'll survive this farce, too.

Even if you're not interested in the game itself but still looking to place a wager there are no shortage of "prop bets" available to put your money on; here are a few:
1. What will Luke Bryan be wearing when he starts singing the U.S. national anthem? (Bovada)

Blue Jeans 1/2
Any other pants or shorts 3/2

5. Will "Houston, we have a problem" be said on TV during live broadcast? (Bovada)

Yes 5/2
No 1/4

6. What color will Lady Gaga's hair be when she comes on stage for the halftime show? (Bovada)

Blonde 1/4
Any other Color 5/2

7. Which song will Lady Gaga play first during the halftime show? (Bovada)

"Born this Way" 9/4
"Bad Romance" 5/2
"Edge of Glory" 6/1
"Poker Face" 10/1
"Just Dance" 10/1
"Any other song" 11/10

9. How many times will "deflate" or "Deflategate" be said on TV during live broadcast? (Bovada)

Over 1½ Even (or 1/1)
Under 1½ -140 (or 5/7)
More betable things here:

Yes, it's only a game. But tomorrow morning there will be lots of talk about 84 Lumber company and the real meaning of the first amendment.

I admit I am secretly hoping the Pats fail - I'm sickened by their love for Chump.
