45's first address to Congress

I sure hope it isn't Carson or DeVos as designated survivor.

This would be great for a drinking game if I wasn't on so many meds.

Well, I sat through it. Two observations: my wife is much better than I at reading people. During the first half she said to me that Paul Ryan's body language, just behind the president, indicated he disagreed with almost everything the president was saying.

Second, my own. What has happened in the more-than-seventy-year-life of this man, that has caused his default, at rest, facial expression to be a looking down his nose sneer?

45's first address to Congress

The excessive and forced clapping started to grate on me about ten minutes in.

Thank God for reruns of Downton Abbey on PBS. Lord Grantham is much more refined than Lord Dampnut.

Well, by Trump standards, I have to say it was probably the best speech he's given...much less rancor and darkness than usual...

But Trump has had other moments where he seemed to want to be more than just President of Trumpanzee Nation, (his acceptance speech on election night, was fairly gracious) but he has never been able to sustain it...

The question is what happens next...

My suspicion is he's going to go right back to obsessing over his personal resentments, and demeaning his office with his vicious and petty behavior because that's who he is and can't help himself...

I am a 'full service' subscriber to the NY Times (among three other newspapers) As far as I am concerned, it is no longer the national newspaper of record. They have not made available the transcript of the president's speech last night. They do have on their website the video of the speech, but that is not the same as reading the speech word-for-word yourself.
