21 out of 30.
I remember almost all of the events mentioned, but am lousy on specific dates ... so the questions like "when did this happen?" or "did all these happen during the same year?" cost me at least another 4 or 5 points.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

You scored

24 out of 30
As far as that is concerned, the 1970's SUCKED!

Jan. 20, 1980 ushered in the close of this horrible decade with the election of RONALD REAGAN :ok

Exactly the same for me, including the same explanation for why.

26/30...

There are two answers they list as "correct" that I know are incorrect, (but I knew what they were looking for so I got them "right")

The one about Star Wars, and the one about Nixon's resignation...

23/30. Not bad considering I was 3 when the decade started.

I too got caught out on "date" questions.

Star Wars? Really LJ? He seems to think so. Telling porkies, is he?

The movie made in the 70's (when casting decisions were made, and the quiz is about) was Star Wars....

"Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" is a remastered extended-cut film version that was created a few years ago...

Nobody was cast to play in it in the 1970s; it didn't exist. At the time Star Wars (the original) was made it wasn't "Episode IV" of anything...

Gee, I'd think a professional nitpicker like you would have picked up on that... :nana

You're wrong, LJ. In the original 1977 film, the rolling yellow script that opened the story was titled "Episode IV: A New Hope." I have a specific memory of wondering how it could be episode IV, and reading at that time, that Lucas intended a 9-episode tale, with the middle three episodes coming first. Obviously, it would be a moot point if the original film bombed, but in any event, it was always subtitled episode IV, even if it will always be "the first" Star Wars film.

Well, I just learned something new...

Whether that title appeared in the crawl depends on when you first saw it:
"When originally released in 1977, the first film was simply titled Star Wars, as 20th Century Fox forbade Lucas to use a subtitle because it could be confusing, since there had been no other Star Wars movies prior to 1977.[1][4] In addition, it was not certain if the film would be followed with a sequel. When The Empire Strikes Back was released in 1980, the subtitle "Episode V THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK" appeared as the first two lines of the opening crawl. To match its sequel's crawl, the subtitle "Episode IV A NEW HOPE" was added for the 1981 re-release of the original Star Wars film, where it continued to appear throughout the film's home video releases."
Here's the original release crawl:

I saw it when it first came out in '77; I'm assuming you saw the re-lease version that came out in '81...

But I believe that still makes my objection to the quiz question valid; when the original film was made, (in the 1970's, the topic of the quiz) the actors were cast to appear in a movie titled Star Wars, not one titled Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope ...

So while we're both right about the trailer credits, I'm still right about the quiz question... 8-)

No. I saw the original in 1977. At the movies at the Cape Cod Mall, sometime around my 11th birthday. It's a vivid memory.

And I didn't say the movie was titled "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope," only that the "crawl" had that subtitle at the beginning.

I watched the video. So what, video can be edited (not suggesting Jim did).
