Serena Williams appeared to announce on social media on Wednesday that she is pregnant.
A photo on Williams’s Snapchat story showed her posing in a mirror and the words “20 weeks.” There was no official confirmation by her representatives.
The image was later removed from her story. Congratulations had begun to pour in from fellow players and tennis organizations on social media, but the WTA Tour deleted its post.
Williams, 35, won the Australian Open in January for her record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam singles title. If she is 20 weeks pregnant, she would have been pregnant during that tournament.
She has not played a tournament since then, withdrawing from events in Indian Wells, Calif., and Miami last month, citing a knee injury. She is ranked No. 2 in the world, but will return to No. 1 next week despite the absence.
She is on the entry list for the Madrid Open, a major clay-court event that begins May 5.
In December, Williams announced her engagement to Alexis Ohanian on Reddit. He is a co-founder of that site.
Sports
Williams is one of the greatest American athletes active today, and is the highest-paid female athlete in the world. She won her first Grand Slam singles title at age 17 in 1999, and has spent more than 300 weeks at No. 1.
Other top female tennis players have taken breaks from the game to have children. Williams’s rival Victoria Azarenka, 27, had a son in December and is expected to be back on the tour in July.
Kim Clijsters retired at 23 in 2007 and returned two years later, after the birth of her daughter, to win three Grand Slam singles titles.

Yeah, well, I don't think that's going to be happening...She is on the entry list for the Madrid Open, a major clay-court event that begins May 5.

In the meantime, we've got her new TV commercial with Steph Curry, which is kinda hilarious.
GAH!
Re: A major development
You never know, if the news is true (she took down her snapchat post almost immediately, but I'm guessing she remains pregnant), she won the Australian Open while 8 weeks pregnant. She is a warrior goddess, for sure.Lord Jim wrote:Yeah, well, I don't think that's going to be happening...She is on the entry list for the Madrid Open, a major clay-court event that begins May 5.
Chase ad, Hi-sterical. Thanks for the recommendation! Love that she whipped his butt in gold sequins and heels, too.

I agree, that's a very funny commercial...
I was going to post it in Laffs but hadn't gotten around to it...
Here's the minute and a half version (I hadn't seen this before; it's even funnier then the 30 second one that usually runs on the tube)

Good luck to her. Tough to take a year off at 37 and be able to come back.

Re: A major development
Her reps have just confirmed the pregnancy and that she will be out for all of 2017, but return to tennis in 2018.
I have no doubt that if she wants it, she will be back.

My Serena... pregnant? Oh, no, she didn't wait for me.
I like 'em rough.

I always thought she was on the other bus. But I pay as much attention to tennis, (it is tennis she plays isn't it?,) as I do to that funny driving around in circles thing.

Well, I can see where for someone on a steady diet of cricket watching, the fast pace of a tennis match might lead to motion sickness or make one dizzy enough to faint...
And cricket has a lot in common with NASCAR...
Since very little happens for long stretches they're both just pretty much an excuse for people to get together and drink without having to pay much attention...

Re: A major development
Now, now, are you likening Serena's withdrawal from the rest of the season to a cricket tea Interval? Or to the game itself?

In keeping with the sex - pregnancy - tennis theme, may I just leave this here for your perusal....?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

.... now admit it; how many of you thought the video title was referring to someone in the stands gettin' it on?

OH my god, people have sex. And even verbalized during sex. Shocking.
