Liz crashed, but is OK

Post by Jarlaxle »

She was out riding today...2-lane, mostly, wound up about 100 miles before lunch. (Her and her friend Tina; I was stuck at school.) They had just stopped to get lunch, and were riding through a business district, going maybe 30-35MPH in moderate traffic. They were riding staggered, with Tina (on her neon-yellow Buell Blast) leading on the left, with Liz (on her Hyosung Comet) a bit back, on the right. As they went, a dickhead in a Ford Escape was coming the other way. As soon as Tina passed him, he cut the wheel left (did not signal) and went to turn...at the last instant, his pea brain processed that there was another motorcycle, and he yanked the wheel right again...her left bar just clipped the Escape; she went into what she described as a short tank-slapper, and then ass-over-teakettle into a gas station's landscaping. :arg

The tally: one bashed Hyosung GT250, one trashed Shoei Neotec, one ripped glove, some interesting bruises, and mulch in all sorts of uncomfortable places. That could have been much worse.

Give her our thoughts mate, hoping she's well.

Just some bruises...full gear and helmet.

Olympia Airglide jacket and pants, Shoei Neotec helmet, for what it's worth.

Glad she's OK, Jarl.

I believe one is too vulnerable riding an MC.

Hence, I never even entertained the thought of riding.

My reflexes are probably crap by now anyway. :(

Glad she is okay.

Was out in the Gorge today and saw a few riders, but one stood out -- a guy at least 75 on a Ducati!

That's scary, but good to know she wasn't seriously injured. She's lucky she survived without too mulch damage.

Good to hear Liz is okay, Jarl. Yeah, coulda been much worse. Did the dickhead have insurance to cover the property damage anyway?

I'm with Dales: the little bit of riding I did back in the day (on one of my BIL's bikes) scared the hell out of me when I was on the road, in traffic; OTOH off-road trail riding was a blast (but not enough of a blast to get me to make the financial commitment of buying a motorcycle). I guess I got the urge out of my system with the borrowed bike, and yeah, at my age I'm content to stay in my metal cage...

My uncle's father still rides at 82...celebrated his 80th birthday with an Iron Butt ride. They're celebrating his 83rd this summer with an Iron Butt 50cc.

Car/truck vs. motorcycle -- often tragic results. I'm happy to hear she lives to ride another day.

Your narrative almost sounds like you were in a vehicle following you loved one, but you indicate you were not. It also sounds like you know the Escape driver personally. Can you link the police report of this incident? Husbands and fathers have a way of over-explaining accident situation involving their family members. And not always being the most objective.

I don't think that's a reasonable thing to ask, given the fact that a police report would include names, addresses and contact information...(I don't believe anyone else who has ever posted about an accident here has ever had that request made of them.)

The implication of your request is that you seem to be saying that you think Jarl is lying about what happened...

You're free to think that if you want, (though I can't think of any conceivable motive; if he didn't want to say what actually happened, why say anything at all? He was under no requirement to mention anything here) but I don't see where he has any obligation to provide you (or anyone else here) with "proof".

(Especially proof that would publicly compromise personal information of the parties involved.)

A few blissfuls times in my youth I went for truly lovely motorcycle rides, which I recall with much fondness.

It's crazy dangerous, though, thanks mostly to auto drivers who don't look for bikes.

Glad Liz is okay, and I admire her zen.

Lying? Not at all, I'm saying that there is an over-embellishment of what went down, especially when Jarl wasn't even there. He has personally invested himself into the story by only having one side of it -- his wife's -- who he nobly and rightly needs to protect.

I've seen enough Judge Judy/People's Court shows to know that hearsay evidence is not admissible in court because it is not reliable. I would have to hear from the other side to make a better judgement, that's all.

Regardless, Jarl's better half is mending quite well and that's a good outcome. It could have been much worse.
