The right to arm bears shall not be infringed.INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say a mother bear who was found with her three cubs in a neighborhood near Lake Tahoe has died after being accidentally shot by a Nevada sheriff's deputy.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife said the adult bear died Sunday morning.
The Washoe County Sheriff's office said it will review the shooting, in which a deputy intended to shoot a rubber round to scare the bear away but fired off a live round instead.[likely story]
The shooting happened Saturday morning after the bears were spotted near homes in Incline Village area in Nevada.
This bear family has previously been identified as "food aggressive" and they've been reported multiple times in recent weeks.[labels are not always accurate]
Officials said the cubs are old enough to be on their own.[that's what you say, they're poor orphans now]

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

The thing to have done would have been to determine it the neighborhood was liberal or not; if the neighborhood is liberal leave the bears alone. After all if they ate liberal or two what be the loss.
What no sense of humor?
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

I find it more than a little ironic that the word "liberal" — which you use as an uncomplimentary epithet — and your own handle ("liberty") both derive from the same Latin root word 'liber' (meaning 'free'). And if you go back even further, there's the ancient Greek word 'libra', meaning 'scales', and implying honesty, fairness, and equality.liberty wrote:The thing to have done would have been to determine it the neighborhood was liberal or not; if the neighborhood is liberal leave the bears alone. Maybe you should change your handle to 'Johnny Reb' or 'klansman' to properly reflect your mindset.

Re: Another Police Shooting Of The Unarmed
It wasn’t me that distorted the meaning of the word. Liberty is to be free to live ones life as one wishes and to have one own identity. One needs an identity to have a place in the world. It wasn’t me that changed liberty to mean support for the communist and to burn the American flag and wave the Vietcong flag. I was the one that went to war and I did my little part to defeat the communist. I remember the last day I worked at the construction site, building a paper mill, and how my liberal hippy co-worker called me a war criminal and a baby burner. He also said just wait until they push that big green wiener up your ass, you will be sorry then. I never did see a green wiener.Bicycle Bill wrote:I find it more than a little ironic that the word "liberal" — which you use as an uncomplimentary epithet — and your own handle ("liberty") both derive from the same Latin root word 'liber' (meaning 'free'). No I never did; I had some hard duty but nothing comparable to having a sausage of any type roughly inserted up my anus.Joe Guy wrote:He also said just wait until they push that big green wiener up your ass, you will be sorry then. Actually it turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me. Instead of the prison he pictured it turn out to be more like a family where the members for the most cared about each others.

Sad, but when a bear becomes too comfortable around humans (scroungin through garbage, etc) the only real solution is what happened here. Scaring a bear may work temporarily, but the bear will come back. Even trapping and relocating is not much of an option as bears travel miles and will return when they know there is a ready supply of food.

What is totally hilarious about this picture:

Is that it looks like the cop has got her ticket book in her left hand, while she's explaining to the bear, (who is standing and listening attentively) why she is issuing him a ticket...
ETA:
"Boo Boo, you've been warned about breaking into trash cans before... This time, I'm afraid I'm going to have to give you a ticket..."...

She's just lucky the mama bear isn't anywhere around; that Kevlar vest wouldn't be very much help against a pissed-off sow who thinks her cub is in danger."OMG, standing here with a real live bear cub!! #awesome!!"
