“He was arrested for suspicion of driving under influence at around 3am, and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail,” a spokesman for the Jupiter Police Department said. “He is no longer at the jail.”

Woods said alcohol was not involved and an unexpected reaction to prescription medicine led to his arrest. The former champion said he understood the severity of what he did and takes full responsibility.

“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions,” Woods said in the statement. “I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.

“I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again. I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism.”
He used to be so bloody good looking too....

And this happened at 3AM... but alcohol was not involved. I remain skeptical.

I, for one, would like to see him make a spectacular golfing comeback but with so much negativity surrounding him I feel it will be almost impossible to do so. Sadly, Tiger has lost his zen. His reach no longer exceeds his grasp.

You're the same guy who displayed almost irrepressible glee when the Lance Armstrong scandal was going on, and you were also the board member who kept finding and posting the least complimentary pictures of former celebrities, heartthrobs, and hunks now that the bloom was off their rose, right?

Why then am I not surprised that you would post something like this?

Well, BB, you clever devil. You have exposed me for what I truly am. The only way I can raise myself up is by putting well known people down. I'm a miserable man, constantly stewing in my own juice.

I can't fool you.

Blood or urine testing will tell the tale on what substances were involved. If he lied he will look even worse.

And those of us who remember what a self-centered asshole Lance Armstrong was when he switched from triathlon to cycling and who could tell just from his performance and weasel-wording denials that he was doping deserved a little celebratory dance when he got the comeuppance he so richly and for so long deserved.

Tiger Woods had no alcohol in his system when he was arrested for DUI early Monday morning, according to outlets citing what appears to be the police report. Two breathalyzer tests registered a .000 blood alcohol content.

The report, issued by the Jupiter Police Department (though they have yet to officially release it), states that the 41-year-old golfer was found asleep at the wheel on the side of the road, and had to be woken up.

The report describes Woods’ speech as being “slow, sluggish, very slurred.” He was wearing black athletic shorts and a white t-shirt.

Despite reports that Woods was belligerent with the police, the officer wrote that he was “cooperative as much as possible. Extremely sleepy. Hard to keep eyes open and hard to walk.”

According to the report, Woods used several pain medications including vicodin. He allegedly failed the sobriety test badly, and was unable to put his finger on his nose, walk a straight line, or stand on one leg.

Woods issued a statement on Monday to explain the arrest.

“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved,” he said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly,” Woods’ statement continued.

“I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again. I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism,” the statement concluded.

This gets weirder and weirder. Apparently he blew a 0.00 and therefore alcohol is not a factor. He was asleep at the wheel of a running car at the edge of the road so was driving under the law. This is said (by Woods) to be due to a medical side effect which is not an excuse, nor does he claim that it is. He failed a roadside sobriety test (walking straight line, standing on one leg etc) but apparently passed something called the Romberg Alphabet test which consists of reciting the national anthem backwards. Huh????? If that is truly some sort of test they use to establish driving competence in Florida I am never going there again. A few minutes thought gives me 'brave the of home' and "glare red rocket's the by' but without pen and paper I would get no further. If as reported he passed, I am very very impressed. Might want to buy shares of the drug company who made whatever it is he was on, because they may have serendipitously produced a genuine brain enhancer.

Honor your guilty plead I.

This is a very common thing, I prosecuted many DUI of prescription drugs. People don't mind the labels. It's still voluntary intoxication and warrants prosecution as they are no less dangerous on the road.

Worse - it's the test for registering to vote

The Romberg Alphabet test consists of holding a position and reciting the alphabet a-z without singing, etc. Not backwards, and certainly not the national anthem backwards.

Where'd you get that erroneous info?

I think the subject also has to have his eyes closed during the test.

From the link I posted. I thought it was weird so I looked it up and of course you are correct.

If you look at the police report on The Smoking Gun http://www.thesmokinggun.com/file/tiger ... dui?page=1 it appears that he understood the directions he was given to recite the alphabet as requiring him to recite the national anthem backwards. Eventually he got the right end of the stick and in fact did it properly.

One of the difficulties of representing many of my clients was attempting to communicate with someone on several pain and anti anxiety meds. Opiate & benzo cocktails cause serious cognitive deficits. He's really lucky he didn't kill himself or someone else.
