RIP Gregg Allman

Allman was "only" 69. Gee, it doesn't seem so long ago that I thought 69 was really old. Now I see death at 69 as extremely off-putting. I wonder how Cher is handling it?

My father died at the age of 69, and I'm now 70. At this point I consider each additional year a bonus.
Still, it's sad and a little alarming to see so many celebrities dying off when they're younger than me.
RIP brother Allman, and rock on...

People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

We should expect to see one or more familiar entertainment name obituaries on a weekly basis. The entertainment industry -- movies, TV, music, sports -- increased greatly after WWII, meaning that the public had more ways to experience entertainment, more free time, more available dollars, etc. The first wave of entertainers in the 50s (who would have been 20-40 then) are and have been reaching their normal life spans, followed by those from the 60s and 70s which were the entertainers of our youth. And there are so many who had their moments of excellence and popularity. Allman died early due to his lifestyle, but that is to be expected in any significant population group. The many passings, though, are an "in your face" reminder of our mortality.
